Do you feed them? LO has been saying she is hungry close to bedtime and if she ate her dinner well I'll typically give her a healthy snack so I don't risk her waking up all night hungry! If she didn't eat her dinner well it's a toss up but more times than not I'm a sucker and give in.

She has a snack most nights if she finishes her dinner. Often we will tell her it has to be a healthy snack (cheese stick, apple, banana, etc). She hardly ever gets desserts so I feel like its ok to do snacks.

No, for us this is simply a delaying-bedtime-tactic. She never wakes up hungry in the middle of the night when I refuse to give her a snack.
She also eats within 2-3 hours of bedtime, so she also shouldn't need a snack.

Not currently for L. We give the boys bedtime snacks if they want, but their old enough not to use it as a bed time delay.
If L requested a snack I might give him a piece of toast, but he hasn't tried that yet, so I can't say for certain how I'd handle it.

He eats within an hour and a half of bedtime, so for us it's a stall tactic.

If he says that, I offer a banana. If he doesn't want the banana then he must not be that hungry
We eat dinner at 6 and bedtime is at 8. I think it's a stall tactic, frankly, but offer the healthy snack just in case he is truly hungry. Sometimes he will eat the whole thing and other times eat the tiniest bite....or decline altogether.

This has been a nightly occurrence for us lately!! We've been telling him no, and that he needs to ask for a snack before we come upstairs for bedtime. He hasn't been eating well at mealtimes so I think that has something to do with it. I feel bad for making him to go to bed hungry but we suspect it's a stalling tactic too, so I don't feel THAT bad

I'll give yogurt or a glass of milk when it happens. Usually DS does eat dinner, but sometimes he comes home from day care stuffed and doesn't get hungry till it's almost bedtime.

We are suckers here too and almost always give in - usually a banana. He doesn't do this often and I do want to show that we trust him to listen to his body, we respect his wishes, etc. We don't give in into every stall tactic but hunger we do.

She gets a snack after dinner, however if she says it right before bed it's usually an excuse for being tired and I say no.

DS always eats well so if he says he is hungry (which he only has maybe 6-8 times) I grab a quick snack for him (banana, cheese stick, yogurt). I know I can't sleep well if I'm hungry so I try to ward that off for him.

when our kids say they're hungry, they're really hungry because they rarely say it. we let them have a snack like yogurt or cheese.

My daughter said this for the first time this week, and said it repeatedly. I gave her a few crackers and she went right to bed.

@Mrs. Bee: Same thing here. If he says he's hungry, then he really is. He gets pretzel sticks and an apple or buddy fruit if he asks for a snack at bedtime.

Yup, we give a snack..... not as great as all you PP's. We give DD teddy grahams as a bedtime snack. I'd say she asks for a snack 3 times a week. We give it to her b/c when she asks for food or snack she really is hungry.

She doesn't do it often because we eat at 6-630 and bedtime is 730...but sometimes if bedtime is a little later then we'll offer a breadstick or something.

@Bao: she did this a lot when fighting bedtime! so I usually gauge how much she has had to eat that day before deciding. these days if she asks she is legitimately hungry and gets something small.
