Tell me about it. My pediatrician thinks this may help our sleep woes. I'm not convinced and frankly not even dying to do this, but may in the coming months. My daughter is 18 months.

I did a blog post about ours, but it worked out really well! We switched to the floor bed at 18 months with our first. With our second we are waiting longer because she seems really attached to her crib and I dont want to rock the boat.

We had one. Switched around 20 months I think. We basically just had a bed and clothes in his room at first because we didn't want him playing. He didn't leave his bed for 5 months without us coming to get him even though he could open his door before that. We just moved him to a regular bed at 2.5 He loves his bed!

@sorrycharlie: try it! I think it works for a lot of people. We don't use it except my husband and I take turns sleeping there for a bit of solo rest. Haha! Cause DS sleeps in our bed and even if we are both not there, he sleeps way better on our mattress!

@sorrycharlie: Tell me more about why your ped thinks it will help! I haven't done it yet, but I think if I had to I would have to remove every other piece of furniture, because she'd be climbing on everything...

We put DD in a floor bed at about 20 months. We took the glider out, anchored the dresser, put a lock on the closet and put in a folding futon as a couch for reading. Our goal was making the room rage proof for tantrums. She had books and stuffed animals but no noisy toys.
We kept a childproof cover on the inside door handle so she couldn't get out and wander the house. We just removed that for nighttime potty training at 3.5.

as far as child proofing, I don't think I've done anything that I wouldn't have anyway- outlet plugs, no cords. I don't keep any toys in her room but there are a lot of stuffed animals and a small bookshelf. Maybe because it's all she knows since she's been on a floor mattress since 5 months but she never messes with her books or dresser at night. If she's not happy about going to bed/ staying in bed for whatever reason she will go to her door and bang on it. (She can't open it herself yet.)Annoying, but eventually she lays down to sleep and Ill sneak in later to put her back on the bed.

We didn't have a floor bed specifically, but around 20 months we did transition out of the crib to a low to the ground futon. It worked, it was really what my son wanted and I was kind of resistant.
We did not child proof nor did we restrict him to his room in anyway. No issues!
