how long did it take to get unclogged and go back to normal? Did it get worse before it got better? LO is 4 months old and I just got my first ever clogged duct, and I am hoping it doesn't take too long to go away!

Unfortunately, I have recurring clogged ducts. The longest it took to unclog was 2 days.

an afternoon/evening of hot baths, massaging, hand expressing, nursing and pumping got it to go away for me. but i don't think mine was that bad.

It normally takes 1/2 a day or so to get unclogged (I do alot of dangle feeding), but sometimes it will stay sore for a couple days.
Hope you get it cleared up soon!!!!

@mrsjazz: do you take lethicin for your clogged ducts?
I've only had clogged ducts once and I think they cleared after 2 days with a lot of massaging and warm compresses.

Awesome, it sounds like it doesn't take long! Thank goodness.

@Sammyfab: I just started taking it this week! I thought stopping my side sleeping would help but it didn't--hopefully the lecithin will help.

I find that it took a long time, maybe a week <6 months. Now at 8.5 months, it takes a couple of days, but with tons of massaging and hot showers!

I think it took a day? I used hot compresses and took hot showers!

I agree with hot showers/compresses and long nursing/pumping sessions. I never had a bad one but it cleared up quickly.

I've had a few... The only thing that worked for me besides having DD nurse, was to squeeze/push as hard as I could on the clogged duct while pumping. It hurt like hell, but that always seemed to work (and I could tell it worked because milk would come shooting out instead of that slow trickle).
Good luck - hope you feel better soon.

@mrsjazz: oops...I always forget if it's lethicin or lecithin :-p. My midwife recommended that I take 1200mg/day when I first got clogged ducts so now I have a giant bottle from costco. Hopefully it works for you!

It took a few days. I just kept nursing on that side only and pumped the other side

Ugh, I'm sorry! I've gotten it around O time for the past 2 months, and of course got the acute flu-like symptoms too. It takes about a day and a half to resolve before I feel human again.
Hot compresses, massage with oil, and a lot of bf'ing and pumping. KellyMom has a bunch of good suggestions. I'm dreading this next month in case there is a hormonal pattern
