Things are still moving along smoothly with everything. We are hoping to have a firm date for delivery in the next week or so. Thankfully, our birth mom is holding steady with her decision. I am bracing myself for the emotional tidal wave that is going to come regardless of the outcome. Everything has been about logistics and checklists so far. It is going to be much harder during the days after he is born and before birth mom can legally terminate her parental rights.

@Pachamama: I love hearing of positive adoption experiences! I imagine it was quite the adventure bringing your sister home. Our birth mom can not terminate her rights until 72 hrs after the baby is born. So far, she has made it clear she wants us with him all 72 of those hours. I truly hope she sticks with that decision.

Thought I would give a quick update on our situation. This week has been very difficult. We almost walked away on Wednesday. While our birth mom has a big heart, she is by no means stable. We had to weigh out how much we are willing to gamble. Thinking about the future of this little baby left me sobbing during my lunch break. Fortunately, as I suspected, birth mom didn't realize the behavior she was engaging in would have consequences. She has made it clear to everyone she is not having second thoughts about the adoption or us. She is just used to thinking only of herself. She has since regained her composure and we have made our travel plans. Fingers crossed the next couple of weeks pass quickly!

@Costello: I will keep you in my thoughts. The stress of infant adoptions and birth mom choices can be so tricky to navigate. We still have some contact with our sons birth family. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

The twists and turns this adoption has taken these past two days is like something out of a movie. It started with an arrest and has gotten more and more bizarre. We are hanging in there because I believe more than ever this baby is meant to be with us. Even with so many obstacles in front of us, the universe is finding a way for us to move forward. I know how crazy it sounds but I am so thankful for all of the positive thoughts from all of you. This little guy has not had anyone do right by him his entire existence. He deserves better and we want him...challenges and all.

@Costello: Hang in there. With a past adoption we just tried to keep telling the birth mother that no one was judging her for giving up the kids. In fact, we would be praising her for making the hardest decision she would ever have to make by choosing the right thing for them.

Thought I would give a quick update. We are flying out to meet the little man who has turned our world upside down. He is scheduled to enter the world on Wednesday and we are more optimistic than ever that he will be coming home with us.
