They're considered a high allergen food but it seems like I don't hear a lot about people being allergic. Is your LO or anyone you know allergic to strawberries?
When did you offer for the first time? I've got some fresh picked strawberries I really want to give DD2 but we just tried eggs the other day so I want to space it more.

My mom is allergic to them. But she's the only person I've ever known in real life who has the allergy, and she's never had a super severe reaction (just itchiness and sometimes hives, if she's eaten a larger quantity unknowingly - she accidentally had a smoothie with strawberries in it on vacation once, even though they weren't listed as an ingredient!)

My friend and her DD are both allergic - not life threatening but itchy mouth and hives if she eats them

I know of one person- a friend's MIL.
I gave them to C around 8 months. Unfortunately that happened to also be when she got her first stomach bug so I was afraid it was a reaction to the berries, but once I, then DH, came down with it, it was clear it had nothing to do with the strawberries. Still took me a few weeks to give them again.

My DD had a boy in her class who is allergic. we weren't notified about it though, so I guess he hasn't had serious reactions. I can't remember the first time we offered... Maybe around 1 year or later?

Evan had a mild reaction to them (small rash around his mouth and chin) the first 2-3 times he ate them, but never serious and he outgrew it and devours them now with no issue. I think the first few times were 10-12 months? He also had the same reaction to eggplant...

I had a reaction, hives, to strawberries when I was young and outgrew it. Lucas reacted to my breast milk with hives after I had consumed strawberries, he never had the berries themselves so I don't know if he would have had a stronger reaction

My mother in law is allergic and my husband used to get hives every once in a while when he ate them, in particular the seeds are the culprit.

LO is not allergic and I don't know anyone who is. That being said, I really like strawberries but I do wonder if I have a very slight sensitivity. If I eat a LOT of them, I get really flushed/hot feeling and my skin on my face is prickly. But as long as I don't eat too many its fine.
I don't remember exactly when we gave them to LO. I want to say like, maybe 8 or 9 mo? I know I did give her just a little bit at first because I knew it was a common allergen but she has no issues.

When I was little I was allergic to them - they'd give me a rash. But I kep eating them anyways because I loved them and I outgrew it.

I don't know anyone who is allergic to them. I gave strawberries to my LO probably when he was close to a year old. He loves them!

We think LO had a reaction to them at around a year, just hives. We didn't give them for about a year but now at 2 yrs she seems fine to eat them.

My friend growing up was allergic to all berries. I'm not sure how severe though as he just never ate them

@regberadaisy: Where did you hear that they are a "high allergen food?" Our allergist said an actual allergy to strawberries is rare.
Strawberries contain a histamine-like chemical that can cause a rash or hives, but isn't necessarily indicative of an actual allergy.
