Ours is only 2.5 hours so we won't be sending our kids till kindergarten.

Ours is half day. Kindergarten is too, unless you pay for full day.

The public pre-k in our county is full day, but only a limited number of children are accepted in and it's done on a need based scale where kids that are considered more at risk get first priority. Our LO wouldn't make the cut under those rules so we won't even apply... We'll just keep her in pre k at her day care.

@YouGotMe: Ontario too. Full day starting the year they turn 4. My son will be 4.5. My cousins daughter was not quite 4 when she started! So young.

@T.H.O.U.: yeah, the center our local elementary is affiliated with isn't our center. So I'm not switching both girls just to get 2.5 hours free. Wished it was though because it'll be nice for DD1 to start bonding with kids that will be in her kindergarten class earlier.

@regberadaisy: practically every center here offers it! Even some home centers.

@T.H.O.U.: oooh hahaha I was referring to the public preK offered by your zoned elementary! LOL She will be moving to "preschool" at her daycare in the Fall then their PreK room the following Fall.

@regberadaisy: yup this is public pre k! Some elementary schools offer it but all the centers and some home providers are also certified and get reimbursed for those 3 hours.

@T.H.O.U.: oh, that's awesome!!!! I think each district here only has a couple that are affiliated and follow the same curriculum.

Public pre-K (4 year old) in my district is full day, but private pay. So, not free. There is a half day option for need based situations that is free.

full day here. can't wait until next september when we will have some more money in our wallets!

@Mrs. Champagne: mine missed the cut off by a few days so she's going to be over 4.5 when she starts.
When I was little my friend started at 3 because her birthday wasn't until after school started the year we started JK

I don't know but like another poster, it is need based here so we probably wouldn't qualify.

It depends on the campus here. A few are full day, most are 1/2 day. Kinder gets out at 2, but that's another campus to campus variation.

Full day here as well but private pay. I dont think we'll do it though because it only is full school day and dismisses at 3:00. I work until 3:45 so I'd still have to find after school care.... If I keep him at his private daycare, that isn't a problem.

@regberadaisy: ours is only a few hours, too but you can pay for after school care, and there's limited space. J's in a private preschool and it's much more flexible and affordable.

I don't think we have public pre-k here and if we did, it wouldn't be full day (8-5:30) so we would still have to pay for daycare. So we wouldn't do it.

Half day, and he'll be able to go at the center he currently attends. Kindergarten is full day though, I'm not sure how I feel about that.

@travellingbee: We have the same situation (except I work even later). Our school district offers an after care program up to 6:00, and it's super cheap!
