If it were me, I would go for two. We had the option btwn 1 or 2 (not via IVF but in another way) and opted for twins bc we also want two children and were unsure if I would ever be able to get pregnant again.

While a twin pregnancy is high-risk, for us it was worth the gamble thus far (I'm 26 weeks.) I don't know what the stats are but even if you transfer 2, there's no guarantee you'll end up with twins, right?

With our IUI+Clomid we had the opportunity for at least twins if not more babies. Our RE told us that twins were not really an issue but anything more than that they really recommend selective reduction for the health of the infants so I think twins shouldn't be too risky. My stepmom had twins via IVF and she just told me recently (this IVF happened 10 years ago) that there was originally 3, so either they put in three embryos or one of the two embryos split, but my twin brothers were born super healthy! I think do whatever feels most comfortable for you, but if it were me I'd definitely go for 2!

We did IUI+ injectibles. I had four mature follicles. The RE gave us three options: cancel the cycle, convert to IVF or go ahead with the IUI. Our chances for twins was 25%, triplets 10%. I ended up with a singleton. So even if you go with two, only one may implant. Like a pp said, it also depends on the quality of the embryos. Good luck!

I know it is such a tough choice and I wish you all the best with your decision and your cycle!!. I was also 34 while going through my cycles. We transferred one during our first cycle (fresh IVF) and I did not get pregnant, but I was sick with OHSS, so I know that had a lot to do with the failure. Then for our second cycle (frozen embryos) we transferred two and I am pregnant with one little girl. I was in a bit of a panic thinking about the possibility of twins but not wanting a bad outcome like the first time. Now, of course, I'm so thrilled that we chose 2 because we are so thankful to be pregnant. If we had chosen just 1, who knows... I did have high quality embryos for both transfers. We are also hoping to have two children, and will still probably transfer 2 the next time around since I'll be around 37 and have preliminarily decided that if twins happen, we'll be just fine ;).

One additional note: I also have a good friend who went through IVF about the same time I did (she's also 34). She transferred 2 and is also only pregnant with 1.

We transferred two (1st fresh ivf) last week. All along we knew we'd put in two & I honestly didn't have any qualms. Hopefully, two will increase our chances & honestly we'd be thrilled with twins at this point. We're not getting any younger & we've been trying for 4.5 years. Like @spaniellove mentioned, your feelings on selective reduction is also something to consider should an embryo split. This is another discussion DH & I discussed & came to some terms with. I honestly wish you guys the best of luck with whatever you choose! Hopefully, you'll get some good news in a couple weeks!

If you are ok with two I would transfer two.

My sil transferred 2 but one split so she was pregnant with triplets. Of course it was very high risk, and unfortunately she ended up losing two of the babies. It was devastating.

Like others have said, just because you transfer two doesn't mean you won't get more than two.

We transferred two on our second round. Our first round, we tried one. That said, we did Attain, so we knew we had four more attempts in the "bank," as it were, should our second round fail.

The pregnancy was tough...I'm not going to lie. The "fourth trimester" (a.k.a. the first 12 weeks) was no walk in the park, either. But now? At four months? We're finally getting the hang of it. And, since we only ever wanted two babies, this is our dream come true. We get all the hard stuff over at once. Unfortunately, we only get to do the fun stuff once, too

I say go for two. If you don't, you may always wonder, "what if?" And if you hit the jackpot, you'll be exhausted and poor, but happier than ever!

@Sugar.Biscuit: while some doctors will transfer a bunch (look at octomom!) I think the average is 2 for under 35, maybe slightly more for over 35. I know my clinic the average is 1.8 for under 35, and the average # goes up as the age goes up - for over 42 it's 3.7

For our IVF round 1 fresh cycle we transferred one and it was unsuccessful. The devastation was immeasurable. For our next round which was an FET I decided last minute to transfer two. I was terrified of having multiples...Well I currently have 2 beautiful girls.

I wasn't sure I could take the emotional devastation of transferring another single embryo knowing I had more than one to transfer. I did make the decision last minute.

@Pink Champagne: I don't think that's totally accurate. I know some people who implanted 2 and only got 1.... What if they implanted the one who didn't make it? They just increased their chance! Lol...
