I have an my ivf cycle coming up and we are going to do genetic testing on the embryos. For those that have done this, did you have to wait for a period after retrieval and then do a separate cycle for the FET or was it all in one cycle?

@LaughLines: I did IVF but not with PGD in 2014. You should post this in the IVF thread because I know of at least a couple who have or are doing this now. I think it alway requires an FET because of how long it takes to get the results back. Good luck!

Hi! Yes there's usually at least a month between. All PGD tested embryos are done as an FET.
Mine looked like this:
Retrieval 12/8/13
Results 10 days later
Transfer 1/8/14
Retrieval mid April
Results end April
Transfer June 28
The first time I started transfer meds immediately after my retrieval just in case. That's why I was able to do it within a month. This last time I did not want to start the transfer meds because I had already had two cycles with no good embryos. They were all abnormal. So I didn't want to start meds because I was convinced that we would have all abnormal again and I would be doing the meds for no reason. So I had to add another month in between to start transfer meds.

@SweetiePie: the first time, did you get a period between the transfer and the retrieval?

Yes, you have to wait for your period after retrieval and then start transfer meds.
So first one I had Dec 8th transfer, period prob 10 days or so later, started transfer meds, and then transfer Jan 1st.
2nd time I had let's say April 14th retrieval, period around April 21st but opted to not start transfer meds, so then I had to wait for following period in May to start meds (which I remember ended up being May 18th) and then transferred June 28th. It was a longer stretch that time because I was traveling I think so they kept me on transfer meds longer to account for that.

Retrieval: 3/11/17
Results: took 15 days, apparently it's one of the longest tests for the specific thing we were getting tested for. otherwise our dr said it's usually ready in about a week.
FET: 4/17/17
i didn't start transfer meds until after i got results and we decided to do the transfer, and it was fine within the timeline of transferring the next month. we actually had one week of flip flopping if we wanted to transfer right away or do another retrieval, since i only came out with one healthy embryo. one of the drs thought that maybe i should do another retrieval now before i get older...
