If you have frozen embryos will you jump right into a FET or try to conceive naturally for a little while for a second child? I'm curious as to how others feel about this.

DH was talking about trying naturally for a little while but my opinion is that we are paying to store our frozen embryos so why wouldn't we use them?

We don't have this option we will never be able to conceive naturally. So we are doing a FET in August.

@brownie: I seriously doubt we will be able to conceive naturally either as we have both male and female factor infertility. Even if I began ovulating on a regular basis we would still have DH's issues to tackle.
Good luck with your FET! I will have to pick your brain because I know nothing about FETs.

@swedishfish: one "advantage" for lack of a better word, is that you can try with no commitment before going. It's been 2 years with no birth control and no baby. So that is an option.
The FET so far isn't too bad. Much more relaxed than the full thing. We only have to go in a handful of times instead of every day for 2 weeks.

Whether we have more is down the road since we're currently expecting from ivf but most likely we'll try naturally for a bit but move fairly quickly to the frozen since we have them.

I'm 37 weeks pregnant following a FET. It was so much easier then a full ivf cycle. We talked about trying in our own for #2, but not for too long, maybe a few months. I won't be going on bcp!

@brownie: yes, I was thinking about what type of birth control I'd go on after this baby decides to show up and then started laughing because I don't need any.
I have to set up an appointment with my RE for the fall. He said he wants to see me 3-6 months after I give birth. I'll ask him about FETs then.

@brady80: may I ask how many embryos you transferred during your FET? We transferred two during our fresh cycle but I'm wondering if it's better to just transfer one during a FET.
ETA - and congratulations!

@LMOG47: I'm also expecting my first after IVF. Congrats! When are you due?

@swedishfish: Congrats to you, too! Technically I'm due 12/3 but since its twins I've been told to expect them in Nov sometime. When are you due?

@brady80: oh I would lo know how many as well. We are leaning towards two.

@LMOG47: I was due on Monday my pregnancy began as a twin pregnancy but I lost one. I'd love to have twins! That's so exciting!

We transferred two. I was pregnant with twins but lost one around 8 weeks....it was developing behind from the beginning so we were very prepared for this to be a singleton.

@swedishfish: I'm sorry to hear about the loss of one : ( So you're about ready to pop any day now, so exciting! Do you know if its a boy are girl?

@LMOG47: nope, we are team green! Are you going to find out? We were going to if the pregnancy stayed a twin pregnancy.
nectarine / 2765 posts
@swedishfish: Green, yay! We're also green & I've gotta say picking out 4 possible names ain't gonna be easy. Do you guys have a suspicion or hunch either way?

I have friends who just never prevented after having their IVF baby. Most had to do IVF again.

@LMOG47: I think it's a girl only because I've known six boys born recently and only one girl but who knows? This kid doesn't want to come out so I can find out! I'm being induced on Monday though so I'll know early next week.
Oh, we still can't decide on ONE girl's name so don't worry!

We are not preventing. If nothing happens naturally by the time LO is 16-18 mos, we will do a FET. I also think we would only do one embryo at a time. No way can I handle a toddler and newborn twins.

Part of my concern is the cost of the frozen embryos. Our insurance, while fabulous, does not pay for their storage. We had to pay over $400 for this year because our storage fees began in April. If we prepay for next year it will cost us $600 (instead of $1200 paying month to month). That is already over $1,000 so we might as well use them from the start I guess? But we will not be preventing either because there doesn't seem to be a need to.

@swedishfish: Our place will prorate the cost per month once you do an FET, so we didn't have to think about that, but if we were in that situation, I could see how that would change our timeline.

@swedishfish: so excited for you! Hope all goes as easily and painlessly as possible! And of course, keep us all updated

We had frozen in storage for a year, which was included in our fee. We discarded it tho, so, unless we conceive naturally, no more via ivf/fet for us. Since we have twins. If we had a singleton, we would have done a frozen.

I haven't frozen any embryos but I was reminded recently that your current baby becomes a twin to your new baby after an FET. I had never thought about that. Super cool!
