I got judged the other day at daycare. It was in the 30's and my daughter didn't have her coat on. We walk about 10 feet from the car to the door and she has a puffy coat so she can't wear it in the seat. We got into the building and a teacher said, "Oh! Why aren't you wearing a coat? It is so COLD outside!" And then she walked away. Hrmph.
Have you judged or been judged at your childcare center?

Not at daycare but someone did that to me at the grocery store yesterday. She would have been standing out longer in the cold than it took me to carry her in. She's old enough to walk but I carried her because it was icy and I wanted her in the building ASAP.

My mom does stuff like to me all of the time. She doesn't understand the whole no puffy coats in the car thing and has made comments about it to me. I've learned to just ignore her.
For instance, she helped me out by picking up the boys from daycare awhile ago. DS2 is still in an infant carrier and I have one of those shower cap style covers. It's plenty warm and it was almost 50 out. She still asked his teachers if I had brought a snowsuit for him.

@mediagirl: This is such an internal battle of mine. They can't wear coats in the car seat and the walk into daycare is so short. Do I really need to put a coat on for 30 seconds?

@BandDmommy: I know. And the thing is, my kid doesn't complain that she is cold! If she's cold, she will tell me. 15 seconds outside in 30-40 degree weather is not going to freeze her fingertips off.

It's not that cold here but it rains a lot and my mom keeps asking if I've used the giant puffer coat she bought DS for Christmas. No. Nor the raincoat and rain boots. Instead I keep a big hooded towel in the back of the car and wrap DS like a burrito for the walk in from the car to wherever we are going.

Maybe she wasn't judging you, but instead thought your LO probably refused to put on her coat? You know how sometimes when mom says do something (like put on your coat, it's cold outside) it's a huge fight, but if a teacher or someone else suggests it, it's the best idea ever?

I think judging would've been directed towards you: "why didn't you put a coat on her! It's cold!" versus at your child. Mine wouldn't put her warmer coat on today, and insisted on a hoodie

This happened to me all the time in Korea. Didn't matter if I had her bundled up completely - the older Korean women always had something to say. It got old, quick.
