Hi ladies ... So, I am finally DONE with shaving my bikini area. After hanging out with two girlfriends over the weekend, who have had laser hair removal, I decided I'm going to as well. Seriously, it looks amazing!! ANYWAY, I wasn't sure if anyone else has done this while TTC. Is there a long healing process when you don't want to be touched? Like painful swelling? And, I wonder if it's safe during pregnancy. Overall, I'd love to hear your experience, and if you did the whole shebang, or just the bikini line.

I was just reading about this on the american pregnancy association site the other day. They state there is no adequate research to prove that this is safe and vice versa
"There are no studies that evaluate the safety of laser hair removal during pregnancy. Many health care providers recommend avoiding laser hair removal during pregnancy because of the lack of information about the effect on the fetus."

I was using the Remington I-light under my arms and stopped when I got pregnant. It says not to do it while pregnant. I still did it while TTC, though.

I've had laser hair removal on my arms, lip and bikini. It was quite a time commitment every month for some areas, every other for the bikini for over 2 years and its not 100% i still shave. The place i went to said TTC is fine but once you get pregnant you can't get laser treatments. They said they would suspend my treatments and i could pick them back up after giving birth, but i finished my treatments before we TTC.

@VEGMAMA: it's safe while TTC and really doesn't hurt. It's not safe for pregnancy, or at least most will not do it if you tell them you're pg. I had 3 sessions left when I got preg and they wouldn't do it. I told DH that I'm going to make sure that I finish it ALL before getting preg w/#2 bc you really cannot see to shave once your bump gets huge!
I was doing armpits and Brazilian bikini, FYI, and they wouldn't laser either area when I let them know I was preg. So my hair grows in much more sparse, but I still had to tend to it while preg, which meant having to do it in a mirror towards the end of my pregnancy!

I am pretty sure that all laser treatments are not recommended during pregnancy . . . my Derm wouldn't even consider it!

the place i went wouldn't do it if you were pregnant, they asked at the beginning of each appointment and you had to sign something about it. you can do it while you're TTC, but you'd have to take a break once you get a BFP.

I thought about doing it before we were TTC, but then I read that often pregnancy changes the hair anyway and it will grow back with all the hormones, etc, so I decided not too. I didn't want to deal with the time, expense, possible pain, just to have preg hormones change it anyway.
But that was just stuff from the internet so probably people on here had actual experiences? -

I had laser hair removal done prior to becoming preggo. However, during my consultation, they said if at any time I become pregnant, they would stop the sessions and resume after I give birth. I would think it's safe during TTC though!
Also, there's no swelling after the procedure is done. You may be a bit sensitive a couple hours afterwards, but there's no residual pain once the laser stops pulsating against your skin. I'm a fan of laser hair removal.

Thank you ladies!! I just talked with my doctor, who had no advice. She said since she couldn't find anything, she would advise against it.
The clinic just called back & told me they don't do treatments during pregnancy or nursing. Such a shame I didn't think of doing this sooner!!! Seriously, the thought of having to shave/wax during pregnancy is a bit scary.
