My SIL is watching my little girl tonight while we go to dinner. She will have her from about 5:30-8:30. My LO is only 14 months and still rear facing but in a convertible not an infant carrier. Do we need to un-install the car seat to leave with my SIL in case of emergency?

I never leave the carseat when I'm gone for just a few hours..
Does she know CPR? If so I think a list of emergency numbers should suffice.Have fun tonight!

@chopsuey119: I am pretty sure she knows CPR. She has three kids so she's pretty well equipped. They live in a neighborhood in town so if they had to call an ambulance or just put my little one in the car for an emergency trip she would be fine.

We leave carseats with our nanny every day, but she's here 8 hours a day.

I always asked to have my nephews carseat left with us when we were watching him. LO is still in an infant seat, but I will always leave a carseat with her. You just never know what will happen and I would much rather be prepared.

@Thehistoryofus: Do you have an infant car seat? because you could just leave the infant seat and not have to uninstall the convertible

Sometimes. If DH are out for awhile, yes. But when my MIL comes over so I can go to the gym, no.
MIL did bring up a good point one day: what if it wasn't an emergency with LO but with one of us and they had to get to the hospital etc... So now anything when were far from LO we always do

@Mrsbells: At 14 months she is too big for the infant seat.

We always leave the car seat but it's an infant seat so it's easy to install. I think even with a convertible I'd probably leave it, just in case...

I usually leave a carseat when we have a babysitter, it just makes me feel more comfortable. I've even left my car with my mother because the seat is installed and just taken her car becasue it's easier.

When people watch my lo we always just switch cars (ill take my mom's car and leave her mine with the car seat in it) or if dh and I are both going out together we'll take his car and leave the van because that's the car seat car. I just feel better leaving the car seat, but I'm too lazy to uninstall it.
