When your LO is at school, do they always finish their lunch at school?
My LO never finishes his lunch. Today he brought home his whole sandwich. I worry he's too busy socializing instead of eating and just wondering if other kids do the same.

@Boogs: I didn't see this when it was originally posted but up until recently my daughter usually finished most of her lunch. She's fairly quiet at school though with a lot of big personalities in her class. In the last month, however, she's come home more frequently with more of her lunch uneaten and I suspect it's because she's finally becoming more social. Does your son eat much at dinner? Lunch is probably my DD's biggest meal of the day and she rarely likes what I serve for dinner so I think that's another reason that she usually eats almost all of it.

It's ridiculously common for kids not to eat all of their lunch at school, either because they're socializing or being silly, or just because there is so much going on that they just gaze at the show. We just send the leftovers home with the kid, there is only so much prompting/nagging/reminding you can do to get a younger child to eat. I know a lot of parents get their kid to eat their leftovers for snack when they get home from school, which they will happily do sometimes because they're hungry. Sometimes of course they don't eat because they have decided they don't like the food.

@Pancakes: He usually eats okay at dinner.
@Mrs. Goose: That's what he does, he always finishes his food when he gets home.

I suspect this is a 6 year-old thing (possibly related to stomach capacity?) and not entirely a school thing. My son is not at school so he's not really time-constrained or super distracted, but he often tells me he's full after eating only a little bit of his lunch (and I give him reasonable, child-sized portions). He has quite a lot of physical activity most mornings and usually tells me he's starving as I'm getting lunch ready, so it's moderately frustrating. But whatever...I stick it back in the fridge and he eats most of it along with a snack later in the day.
