LO is a lazy nurser. She will BF for up to 45 minutes on the first side, and then enjoy 20+ minutes of dessert on the second. She is sucking the whole time though her swallows are spaced out. At first I thought it was my supply, but my doula thinks it's just how she nurses. I do things to try to keep her more alert but she doesn't care. The only thing that makes a real impact is squeezing my breast to get the milk flowing faster.
My doula reassured me that this is just the sleepy newborn phase and it will get better, but I feel like I am constantly nursing at this pace. We had to supplement for a couple days & honestly, nursing for 20 minutes or so & then giving her a bottle was so much easier! But I obviously don't want to keep that up.
Can any of you relate?
), and patience. Really, the most helpful thing I did was to set up a comfy nest in the living room with everything I needed close by (water, snacks, blankets, burp cloths, etc), and find a few TV shows to binge watch. I put LO's bed nearby so that if we got tired we could both doze (me on the couch, him in the rock n play). It felt like a long time, especially with the early postpartum haziness, but it really did get better over time. He slowly ate more milk, less often, and gained back his weight even before that happened (and then some! He got downright chubby, haha). Hang in there, mama. It gets better!
