Will you let LO walk to/from school alone? How old would you want them to be before you let them?

It would depend on how far...a block or two, maybe 9-10 years old. Any further, not until maybe 12. There are too many weirdos out there.

Yes. With a group of friends starting as an upper grader/4th grade (so, 9-10 years old?) and if she doesn't have friends to walk with, I'd pick her up/drop her off. I wouldn't want her to walk completely alone.

Based on where we live right now and the school we plan on sending her to, I'd say by 8 or 9 she will be walking/riding her bike to get to school. My rule will be that she has to drive through the subdivision though and not down the busy main road instead.

She could now at almost 10 but I'm not comfortable with it.
I'm not sure I will be.
So, she and her sister are driven to school each morning. Just better piece of mind for mommy.

If they go to the school I'm thinking of, then yes, they'll be able to walk there without an adult, probably by 9 or 10.

I walked to school by myself starting in Kindergarten and ending as a senior in high school. There was a major highway crossing involved, but we had a crossing guard (the have recently built an underpass at that crossing so it is no longer an issue). It was a 15-20 minute walk. Assuming the neighborhood was safe, and there were similar road safety things involved, I would have no problem letting my LO walk to school!
My neighborhood had lots of kids around the same age, or with older siblings, so we would pick each other up along the way. I never once had any sort of safety issue. I was a little embarrassed in high school since I was the first to get a driver's license but wasn't allowed to drive since we lived within walking distance, ha.
