My elementary school was rated slightly lower than my experience way back in the dark ages (rated 5, I'd have said 6 or maybe 7). My high school was rated 8, and I'd have given it a 7 or 8, so again, pretty close.

I had to look up quite a few schools since I attended three different highschools. First to my surprise my elementary school now stops at 5th grade and my junior high is now a middle school. Those ratings were low given the reputation of the schools and the programs I remember being apart of. Both received 8 and I was expecting 9 or 10. However, after reading the comments it looks like things have changed a bit.
My first HS was rated a 6 , second a 9 and the one I graduated from a 8. I can see why my second HS received that rating. That school totally tracked students and offered relevant classes and opportunities based on students post-HS interests.

All three schools rated a 5, but I would've rated much higher. I'm from a very rural, low income area with little funding so that's probably why they all rated poorly but i feel like I received a great education at those schools

Wow, my high school was a 9, which I didn't expect! I mean, I thought it was a good school, but I didn't think it was a 9!
Now I feel bad that I'm sending my kids to low ranked schools...

My grade school is rated at a 9, and I'd agree. It was great.
My high school is rated at a 6, which I feel like is surprising....but that may be because of changes made after I graduated (which is now a long time ago). A lot of the complaints are about the lack of extra-curriculars, other than sports, which is true. Since graduating, they've gotten rid of a LOT of the art and music programs, which oddly, is what they were known for in the first place. So I guess I'm not really surprised. When I went there, I would have rated them a 7 or 8.

The high school I graduated from is a 10. Although it has a great reputation around here, I wouldn't give it a ten! Maybe an 8. My elementary and middle were 9s and I think lower for my elem. would be accurate but who knows as decades have passed. Definitely surprised.

Elementary (8), middle (3), and high school school (4) are accurately ranked according to the years that I attended. Most people in my area move to private schools after elementary.

A few things that I noticed about my high schools "report card".
Biggest thing is that it doesn't include graduation rates. There is a standard federal graduation rate that all schools/districts/states must report on, so I dont understand why this website wouldn't have that information.
Also, for "college readiness" it only includes participating in an AP course. A few concerns about this number
- Participation is an easy number for high schools to inflate because they can just register a bunch of students for the course even if its not in the best interest of the student and they have no hope of passing.
- This only looks at AP courses not dual enrollment (college level courses), IB, and AICE (industry certifications). These are also great measures of college readiness and students being more prepared when leaving high school.
- A much better measure would be looking at students in a graduating cohort that successfully pass one of those accelerated type courses.
ETA - my public high school is rated an 8 which I feel is pretty accurate. Another local magnet high is a 10 and its one of the best in the nation (on multiple measures) so I feel that its pretty accurate.

I was in school so many years ago, I feel like the numbers currently do not reflect my experience at all.

Mine are about what I would've expected (6-7ish range), mostly because I attended schools in a very rural area.

Elementary - 6
--> No idea because the year I started at my elementary school was actually the very first year it opened, plus they tested a pilot immersion program on us tiny guinea pigs.
Middle - 6 --> Seems right
High School - 8 --> Seems high. I would have said 6 or 7. Compared to other high schools in our state, ours is generally slightly above average. Then again, our state had very good schools.

My grade school was an 8, which I would agree with. My HS was a 7, I thought it would be closer to an 8 or 9. We always had really high testing scores when I was in school!

Each was an 8. The areas grown and more schools have opened so I'm sure things have changed some. I was a bit surprised, the 'bad' middle school also had an 8 rating. The economics/demographics aren't that different bw the two schools so maybe the test scores are similar. But the bad middle school was bad bc pretty much all the 13 year olds that came out of it had started experimenting with different drugs and were sexually active. Our hs made national news for a few negative incidents while I was there but it was a massive school so in a way you had more opportunities for sports and various classes than you would in most places.

They all pretty much line up with what I expected to see. I don't put a ton of faith in these school ratings since they're so heavily based on standardized test scores. I wish there were a better rating system.

Hmm. My elementary rated 9 and my middle and high schools rated 4. Middle and high are in new facilities with probably completely different faculty and admin from when I was there, so I don't think the experiences can compare. I probably would have said 6 for middle and high and wouldn't have rated my elementary a 9. I grew up in a small town though with only one public HS.
