@mrskansas: oh and full disclosure crazy, I was reading on babycenter about a lady who got a bfp at 5dpo, and it was because it's twins. I'm going to try really really hard not to test!

@dc yoga bee: I didn't even think that was possible! I think a lot of times when you hear of really early BFPs they just calculated their ovulation date incorrectly... I mean implantation doesn't even happen until *at least* 6 DPO from what I've read! And then tack on another day or two for the HCG to show up on a test and it just doesn't make sense.

But everyone is different so who knows!
Try to wait until at least 8 DPO if you can so you don't drive yourself crazy!

@mrskansas: So, what I read is you already start producing HCG BEFORE implantation. As soon as it's a blastocyst it's producing low levels of HCG. And if it's twins, voila a highly sensitive test could pick that up.

@dc yoga bee: But how would the embryo get the HCG into the bloodstream without being implanted? Doesn't it just float around the tube/uterus until implantation?
I'm obviously not a doctor so excuse me if I don't make any sense. The whole conception process is just baffling to me!

ETA: I'm reading some studies about it. Very interesting stuff!

    @bushelandapeck: Thanks!

So I’ve been doing a lot of research on why I’m not ovulating naturally with Femara. There are two scenarios.

    (1) Femara works by blocking estrogen production. A rise in estrogen is what triggers your LH surge. So theoretically my body could just take longer to recover from the estrogen suppression therefore pushing ovulation out.
    (2) Each mature follicle secretes estrogen, usually around 200 per follicle. Even if the follicle looks mature in size, it could be immature or contain a poor quality egg. I would assume if the follicle(s) are not producing the “normal” level of E2, estrogen will never rise high enough to trigger the LH surge.

I really need to stop looking all this stuff up but it is helping keep my expectations in check. I feel like if Femara is negatively affecting my estrogen production there is no way I will get pregnant.

    Good morning, ladies!

DH and I have been having regular intercourse since finding out I'm pregnant, but this morning's session had some light pink blood a couple times when I wiped afterwards.

Is this typical for 4w5d? This is gonna sound REALLY silly....but does position matter?! Today was the day it was me on top vs all the other times.

I'm gonna call my OB's office in a bit but I thought I'd see what the hive says.

@Mrs. Oreo: I don't know how to say this without being completely TMI but whatever... the cervix is more sensitive during pregnancy which is why some women spot after exams, ultrasounds, etc. If your DH is well-endowed and could hit your cervix during sex that could explain the spotting. Or even having an orgasm could knock some blood loose.

I agree with calling your doctor since it was pink and not brown.

    ETA: DO NOT GOOGLE!

@Mrs. Oreo: Just chiming in to say...get it girrrlll. Good for you
And yes, it can be TOTALLY normal to have some spotting after sex when pregnant. Everything is more engorged. As long as it was just when you wiped and doesn't get worse, totally normal.

@mrskansas: @SweetiePie: Thanks for your thoughts! My OB's nurse called me right away when I sent a message and they got me in for blood work today and repeat one on Thursday. Which works out well since we leave town Friday until next week--so this would give me more peace of mind.

My betas are at noon today so wish me luck!

@Mrs. Oreo: with the betas. I think it's pretty normal.

@mrskansas: I really hope this month works out for you, but I think it's good that you have this information. With stuff like this it's super important to be proactive because the doctor won't necessarily pick up on it...

  16. mrskansas

    nectarine / 2813 posts

@periwinklebee: Yeah I don't think they would ever think about it. My gut is saying that I shouldn't worry about it just yet... I did have EWCM on the day of trigger and a lot the day after, so my estrogen must have been relatively high to cause that. It just seems like my body is a little slower to "bounce back" from the estrogen suppression. It may be a blessing in disguise that I triggered late!

@Mrs. Oreo: if it is any consolation I bled often after having sex in my first trimester last pregnancy.

Unfortunately we haven't had sex yet because my post ovulation burning stuff hasn't gone away yet. But honestly I feel like its a blessing in disguise because I'm afraid sex will lead to bleeding this time around too.

I'm also having betas done today because my (new) Dr won't see you until you have them done.

@mrskansas: yeah, definitely don't worry about this cycle, especially since you get two chances!

@periwinklebee: One day at a time

    How have you been feeling?

  20. periwinklebee

    grapefruit / 4466 posts

@mrskansas: This is exactly my motto - one day at a time. I'm gonna enjoy today in case we get bad news at the scan tomorrow, at least at the moment I have no reason not to think everything is going great. Physically - blah - I don't remember this much exhaustion last time and MS is starting. I was having breakfast with a friend today who said she didn't have any idea she was pregnant until 11 weeks, even though they were NTNP, and I just wonder how that is even possible

  21. mrskansas

    nectarine / 2813 posts

@periwinklebee: Yeah that is crazy to me. I didn't have a lot of symptoms but I sure would have known that something was up. Those people are lucky to just skip the first trimester!

What time is your scan tomorrow? I'm sure everything will be perfect!

  22. periwinklebee

    grapefruit / 4466 posts

@mrskansas: 8 am - I was expecting to have to wait until 8 or 9 weeks, so it seems a bit unreal to go in already (not complaining !) I hope that you're having a good birthday week!

@mrslibrarian: thanks, I appreciate that. According to DR. Google, it is not unusual as well.

At least it got me to get my betas done! Lol. Good luck with yours!

@periwinklebee: good luck with the scan I hope everything goes well how far are you?
@Mrs. Oreo: I had bleeding varying from brown and clotty to red at 6+5, 10, and 11+3 it was always linked to a transvaginal ultrasound, exercise, sex or dehydration (or some combo there in). Totally scary and the last one earned me a trip to the ER but everything has been ok so far. It sucks that this is a part of your pregnancy but hopefully it is all normal for you.
@mrskansas: Are you triggering this month or just taking it as it comes?

AF has arrived so I'm out. Good news is it's cycle day 31 versus the 35 day cycle I had last month. We're going to two weddings in the next 3 weekends so at least I will get to imbibe!

@Mrs. Oreo: Beta Base is a great website to use as a resource!

  34. Mrs. Oreo

@snarkybiochemist: Thanks! I should be right at six weeks tomorrow. A tad early, but we'll see what we can see. I'm glad to hear that things are going well for you!

@Mrs. Oreo: Good luck with the betas. In Jan I bled pretty much from 5 weeks until D&E @ 10 weeks due to an sch but my hcg was increasing as it should during most of that time. Bleeding during pregnancy sucks - I'm fantasizing about avoiding it this time around but it's pretty common.

@petitenoisette: I'm sorry about AF I hope that you enjoy the weddings.

@periwinklebee: I really hope everything goes smoothly and you get reassuring news

  40. periwinklebee

    grapefruit / 4466 posts

@Mrs. Oreo: p.s. just to clarify, the bleeding/sch wasn't what caused the pregnancy to be non-viable. That was a completely separate issue. Just commiserating that bleeding during pregnancy is no fun.

    @snarkybiochemist: Thank you!
