Medela Pump in style advanced - need opinions on this CL deal:)

So I found a sealed brand new Medela pump in style advanced on craigslist for $175. The lady got it as a gift but says she already has an older Medela that she likes so she's selling this one. Fine.

But it's the one with the backpack. I think it's a REALLY good price, But will I regret getting the backpack one and not the tote? It's $255 on Amazon right now.

Should I not worry about the bag? This IS an awesome breast pump, right?

Maybe I'll offer her $150?

I have the bag version and the only difference is that you can take the motor out of the bag. But for that price, I would totally get the backpack!!!

@banana: So does it not come out of the backpack? Like I'd have to always be hooked up to the backpack?

I don't know about the backpack but the pump in the tote does not come out, you are tied to it. If you want the pump to be removable, get the metro bag, unless you can take it out of the backpack.

@jholler25: I just noticed it was the Advanced one. Yeah, those DO come out of the backpack. The regular original ones (not Advanced) do not. But I"m not entirely 100% sure because I have the the metro bag one. If it DOES come out of the backpack. BUY IT!! The tote bag that comes with the Metro Tote version is horrible. After 2 months of use, the strap fell off. I would double check to make sure the motor comes out and buy the pump because you can always just use your own bag!!

BUY IT! My friend at work got the backpack because she carries too much in her hands when coming and going. Another friend gifted me hers (lucky I know) and it is the tote. I'm not sure which I'd like but I know I like cheap (or $50 for new parts in my case). BUY IT!

Heres another idea: Buy it, take it to BRU or BBB and say you got it from a gift with no reciept and really want the tote, can you exchange? I bet they'd say yes if you played dumb on where it came from.

@alison206: I like your thinking! It pretty much had to come from either BBB or BRU, and both are within 5 mins of my house so that's totally worth a try!

@mediagirl: Thank you! I offered the lady $160 and I'm definitely going to try to exchange it at BRU or BBB since it's sealed for the tote one. And even if I can't and the stupid motor won't come out, for $100 in savings, I'll just put my big girl pants on!

@banana: I called BRU and they said it doesn't come out of the backpack - Booooo! But I just offered the lady $160 and we'll see what happens. If she takes it, that's a good deal, so I won't whine about the backpack. Or if I can exchange it to BBB or BRU like Alison206 suggested, then FAB!

@jholler25: yeah try to exchange it and if that doesnt work: oh well. I'm sure it'll be fine. I think pumping is already not so fun so having it in a tote or backpack won't be your biggest issue (not to sound negative!). I don't think i'd care if I found something at that price; i'd jump on it.

BRU won't return it without a receipt. When we purchased ours last year they made it very clear that the seals could not be broken on the box, receipt must be included and the window for return was only three months.

Before you make the investment if you think you might want to try the exchange option I would make a call to your local store to verify their policy.

$160 is a GREAT price. Honestly you won't regret it. I took the motor out of my metro bag and used my own tote bag but I hardly ever took the pump out of the tote bag! Which basically defeated the purpose. You wont' regret it.

@MamaG: I looked up the BBB policy and here's what it says:

Returns Without Receipt or Returns Over 90 Days
Items in new condition* returned with original packaging without an original receipt or packing invoice, or purchased over 90 days ago, will receive a store merchandise credit for the current selling price of the item.

*Formula, Breast pumps and accessories, Maternity Undergarments
For the health and safety of our customers, formula is non-returnable and only unopened breast pumps, breast pump accessories and maternity undergarments can be returned.

So if this one is sealed then they should let me exchange it, right? Am I interpreting it correctly?

If so I'm doing it this week before anything changes!

@banana: I just watched this show about people surviving deadly encounters (very uplifting, I know!) and there was this pregnant woman who went to another woman's house to purchase something from her that was baby/pg-related, and the woman kidnapped the prego and tried to tie her up and cut her baby out so she could steal it. So I agree that $160 is a great price, but I am very cautiously meeting this woman at STARBUCKS tomorrow so that she cannot cut my baby out of my stomach after luring me with a super-cheap breast pump:) Haha!

I had the Medela PIS in the backpack with my first baby and never felt the need to take it out of the bag.

@travelingbrit: That is something that I could see happening in South Florida because people are so damn CRAZY here. So while I love to get stuff off craigslist if I see a good deal, I won't take any chances with the nutjobs here! Have you looked on CL for anything? We are so lucky to get all the overflow from the El Priveleged in Boca/Miami! There's a lot of good kid stuff on there - especially strollers....But no Uppa Baby Vista lately so we're going to buy that new:)

@jholler25: From your picture, it looks like that little plastic sticker on the outside of the box has been broken.

I wouldn't count on being able to return/exchange it.

@jholler25 Haven't really started buying anything yet, except clothes.
I want to wait at least 4 more weeks until I'm 24 weeks.
Then I will start looking. Luckily SO's two brothers have had their final children - so they have offered us a lot of free stuff.
Will be counting on gifts, craigslist, and consignment for many other things.

I want to wait to buy a pump to make sure that I have no milk supply issues.

@jholler25: oh my gosh i totally remember that. I think it was near Milwaukee?? My SIL told me that...

Btw BRU has always been great about returns for me. I had some items I didnt have gift receipts for and they accepted them
