One of my good friends just did her final IVF transfer and found out that out of the 3 frozen embryos she had left, none made it through dethawing. She is, understandably, devastated.
I plan to send flowers, but the message I ran by my husband -- "something to brighten your day" -- he said was too cliche. Any ideas?

I think that it's a bit...I don't know, dismissive? Not that you're intending to be, just that I think that's how I would read it. I would go with more of a sympathy message, something like "I'm really sorry, I'm here if you need me, let me know if there's anything I can do."

I think even something like "I know this is a hard time for you, let us know if there is anything we can do".

@erinbaderin: We've talked at length on the phone (and in person) about it, so it was really more something to brighten her day. I think you are right though - it never hurts to reiterate how sorry I am and that I'm available!

I'd stick with something simple like "Thinking of you" or "I love you"
Sometimes people's efforts to "brighten" or change my perspective aren't appreciated in the hardest moments. Acknowledging her pain would be better.
