My good friend has pcos and she conceived after taking metformin. I don't think she was taking it the cycle she got her BFP though. Unfortunately she miscarried.

My cousin did. She absolutely credits the Metformin for the conception of her child. I am on Metformin to attempt to regulate my cycles but needed IVF.

My SIL. She went years without a BFP and says metformin was a miracle drug. She got PG within a couple months.

I got my BFP and lovely baby boy while on metformin. Let me know if you have any questions.

I had mild PCOS and was successful the first cycle with metformin and Clomid.

@Mrs. Yoyo: Did you start with both Metformin and Clomid right away, or did you have some cycles just with Metformin?

@wheres_c: Were you just taking Metformin? Or were you also taking something else?
Also, can I still use OPKs with accuracy while taking Metformin? I heard that Clomid can mess with OPKs... but does Metformin?

@pui: Yes, I did both right away. My doctor said chances of success were a bit higher with both. By the time we sought intervention we were impatient, so we went for it

@Mrs. Yoyo: Hm. I don't know if my doctor would let me do that. I'm pretty sure he wants me to try just the Metformin before adding Clomid. We've only been TTC/NTNP for 5 months (3 cycles).

@pui: infertility was one of his specialties so he was more willing to be aggressive, but I would have happily just taken met if not for the fact that DH is 9 years older and said his clock was ticking, ha.

@pui: I'm currently on metformin and have been for a year. We've been trying for almost 18 months now and still haven't gotten a BFP. I know of some people who got their BFP with just metformin, but for us unfortunately it will take more than that.
You can still use OPKs with met and they are accurate. My only advice about Met is to take it after you have had a big meal, like dinner. One of the side effects of it is stomach issues. I was lucky and didn't have any, but my doctor was insistent that I take it after dinner and on a full stomach.

@pui: I was taking metformin only. (And synthroid but that's unrelated). I hadn't had a period in a year. I did one round of acupuncture and a week later I was pregnant. So I credit it to both the met and the acupuncture.

I have PCOS... we tried pretty much June, through December. OB put me on Metformin week of Jan 14th I think? My cycle started 1/7. I got my BFP 2/4. So YEAH... it worked haha!!!! GL to you!!!!!

@pui: My doctor advised me to use OPK's with MF. She had me use the smiley ones (she hates the messing with the strip ones so I just followed her advice) CD 10-20. I got one smiley on CD 18 and DTD 3 times that day and the next, and that did the trick! (I was out of town without DH 5 days before O!!! Did not think it would happen! Glad I O'd a few days later than "typical!") So in my case, PCOS with Metformin, OPK's 100% worked.

I have thin PCOS and got pregnant my first cycle of metformin (7th cycle trying). I stayed on it through the first trimester to prevent miscarriage.
If metformin alone didn't work the next step for us was going to be adding clomid in 3 months.
I have a really sensitive stomach and was pretty worried about metformin, but it wasn't bad if I took it right after a big dinner and went to bed within a few hours.
Good Luck!!!!

@1000tulip: same here, plan for 3 months and then clomid. I keep joking that our first MF cycle baby will have to be NAMED Metformin!

I started metformin and a low glycemic index diet and got pregnant our first cycle trying. I stayed on the metformin until 12 weeks. It definitely worked for us!

Oh, I am still on Metformin and I am 36 weeks 4 days. My RE had told me to stay on the Metformin for the entire pregnancy and it's helped my GD diagnosis now. My dosage was actually upped to help my fasting numbers.
ETA - I had no insulin issues prior to pregnancy.
