We have lots of choices of Montessori programs in our area, and they all have varying starting ages. DH and I are thinking of getting on the waiting list for a program that begins at age 2. It's a long wait, but the school is really small and the quality is awesome.
If your LO(s) attend a Montessori program, what age did they start?
*this is all assuming I don't lose my mind, quit my job, and go back to teaching Montessori until our kids are in school. That's totally possible.

We have 3 programs in town. 1) starts a half day toddler program at 2 years old. 2) starts them at 2 years old but they must be potty trained and if they have an accident you have to come change them. 3) in home program with insane waiting list but I think they can start younger.
We are starting our son in the 1st program tomorrow and he is 2 1/4 years old.

With Lala we started at 2 years old. We could have started earlier, but she was really a shy observer before then and we didn't think she was going to get as much as she could out of the program.
M is so different and we're starting her at 18 months. She is so ready and loves doing everything that her big sis does! She is so into her body and practical life skills that we could have probably started her at 14 months, but I still think of her as my baby!

@Mrs. Jacks: so does your nanny pick M up from school? I am always curious to hear how "preschool" works with childcare. Do you pay extra for extended "daycare" after school?

IF we decide Montessori is the best choice for us it will be at the earliest 18 months. She will go FT because we both work FT and can't afford a nanny on top of daycare.

@Mrs. Pen: There are many options at our school. Some of our friends do extended day, so the parents don't have to do pick up until 6 pm. They can start school as early as 7:30 am.
Our plan is to have one of us take the girls in the morning at 8:30 and then our nanny will pick them up at 3:30 and care for them until we get home from work. She will be staying until 7 pm so that I can get dinner fixed and get M. ready for bed before she leaves.
I believe this will give us the most flexibility and the most quality time with our kids. I wanted to prevent that whole end of the day flail where we're all anxious to get home and completely worn out. This should make for really smooth transitions and should allow our nanny to go to school during the day while providing enough hours to keep her solvent!
The girls will stay home from school on Fridays with their nanny.
