I've posted about how my LO wouldn't take a bottle for anything. I think we're almost past that and I wanted to share what worked for us. I do wish we had kept giving her a bottle a day early on though to have had a shot at preventing this from ever happening.
She took bottles of breast milk from Medela bottles like a champ when she was around 2-3 weeks. Once she got to around 6 weeks, we weren't giving them as often and went about 3-4 weeks without giving one. Once we tried again, she flat out screamed when she was offered the bottle. It got to a point where I went to get my hair cut for an hour and came back to her screaming (and apparently she'd been screaming for an hour). The same happened when I went to a doctor's appointment for 45 minutes.
We tried Medela, Tommee Tippee, Playtex Drop-ins (latex and silicone), and Dr. Brown's. She was okay with the Medela but they all made her cry. Then we tried the Lansinoh mOmma bottles. She's never cried with them and always latched right on. She was a little fussy so we tried the medium flow since my let down is a bit faster. She's never had any issues (she's 17 weeks tomorrow).
We also had to give her formula in the bottle to get her to take it. This also took a few tries. Enfamil made her sick, Gerber GoodStart Gentle wasn't her favorite taste-wise, but she took the Target Up and Up Sensitivity formula incredibly well. It also has been great on her stomach (I've had to all but cut out dairy for her reflux, it's not totally cut out but I have to limit it).
We've been giving her a couple of bottles a day (now she likes to have bottles instead of me sometimes). I wanted to only give her breast milk the first year and feel a bit bad about trying to switch her to formula during the day (our ultimate goal) with nursing at night. However, I know that it'll allow me to be less stressed and therefore happier. And I think being happier, I'll be able to focus more on us just having fun and her learning.
So for us, what worked was Lansinoh mOmma bottles with medium flow nipples and the Up and Up Sensitivity formula. We're still working on her taking the bottles more consistently (a lot of times she'll take the bottle but still want to nurse for 5 minutes). I just thought I'd share in case anyone else is currently going through this.
