So yesterday I'm looking through the Babies R'Us add and I see breast pumps. I was telling the hubby that that will be one of our last bigger purchases and he said we don't need one! I'm definitely planning on breastfeeding and my hubby already knew that, I tried to explain why we would need one, one being if for some reason I'm not with the baby he/she could still be fed with my milk. He's like, no you just give him/her a bottle. I said yes, of MY milk and he said no, formula. I said what's the point of breast feeding? He then said just bottle feed.... OH GEEZ! He just has no clue about the benefits of it lol Just a funny rant I had to share with you ladies lol

Tell him you will save lots of money by breastfeeding? Maybe he will like that idea?

@Andrea: Haha I'll sure try! I'm going to try breast feeding no matter what he says! He just thought the pumps were gross. He has a lot to learn once baby comes

Have you thought about taking a breastfeeding class and dragging him along? They usually go through all the benefits of breastfeeding there. My husband learned a lot! Although if he's already not all for breastfeeding it would probably be hard to get him to the class....

@aMohror: haha. @artbee has a great idea about the class. Hopefully it will seem more "natural" for your DH once he sees you doing it with your own baby.

Show him the cost of a case of formula, that may help...
I agree with @Artbee- my hospital has a breastfeeding class, they prefer that the husband/partner attend too so they can help you in the early days. It really helped sell my husband on trying everything we could to make breastfeeding work!
Also remember that you can deduct the pumps from your taxes!
ETA- I would be very uncomfortable if I wasn't able to pump too, the baby doesn't always drain both sides at once, having one full and one empty breast is not a good feeling!

It's definitely ideal to supplement breast feeding with milk from pumping. But just a note that many families do supplement breastmilk with formula, and that's okay too!

My husband used to give me grief about my breastpump too. Sadly, I only used it for 2 months. HAHA. Will definitely use it more next time!
You should totally drag him to a breastfeeding class! It's important for you and your husband to be on the same page when it comes to feeding your baby! -
You can also rent a pump first and see if you use it a lot.

Yeah, I really would see if he'll go to a BF class with you. If he's not fully on board (FULLY) it can be very difficult the first few weeks when BF is rocky, especially if he's telling you to "just give the baby a bottle."
