I know there's several current and former nannies here, as well as parents who use them and I was wondering if I could get some input.

For several reasons, I think I will probably end up having to go back to work 8 weeks after LO is born. After thinking about it, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with sending a baby that little to daycare. On top of that, it'll probably be mid-January when I go back to work, the height of cold and flu season.

So I'm contemplating getting a nanny for a couple months. I'd love to do it longer term, but I don't think I could justify the cost. The daycare center we would use would be a little under $1700/month, and I think nanny rates are around $12-$15/hour, so I think a minimum of $2k/month.

But I'm not sure if nannies will take such a short term job? If they do, are there other considerations I need to worry about? Do I need to discuss sick/vacation time if it's for such a short time? We do plan to take a week to go to Florida in March, I'm not sure how that would be handled either - should they get a paid or non-paid week off?

Also, when would you start looking for a short term nanny? I'm not due until the end of November, I just like to think ahead :D.
