Nope. My kids have nap time in my pre-k class, but my sister teaches kindergarten and they only have a 20 min recess and no nap. Quite a change from my kids who have over 2 hours of playtime and a long nap.

I definitely prefer half-day kindergarten. That way he/she gets to nap still. Here, was have kids as young as 3 in JK ... full day. No naps. =/

I really think kids should be napping up to 5 or 6 years old.

With full day, the least they could do is factor in a nap.

D's kindergarten did "nap time" for the first half of the year, but worked to transition them out of it, so by Christmas, none of them needed that nap anymore. They were doing "quiet time" after that, which involved solo activities, like coloring and stuff.

It was obviously a long time ago, but I remember having nap time in my half-day afternoon kindergarten. I thought it was bizarre because I had never gone to daycare or preschool and had apparently dropped my nap by then. I just remember lying on the mat nervously while my classmates slept.

I taught at an inner-city school, and the K teachers started with a nap time and transitioned out of it by January.

I worked at another school (different state) and they did nap time all the way through. Quiet work/reading time was allowed toward the end of the year for kids who didn't nap.

My daughter is in her second year of K (Ontario does a junior and a senior K, though my understanding is that they share a curriculum? But she has just started a French immersion program this year), and she didn't have naps last year but they are doing them this year! And while she isn't actually napping, I am so thankful for the daily quiet time!
