Hi ladies, you were so helpful last time when I mentioned LO's crying during feeding episodes. It made sense that he was hungry as when we went to the DR he hadn't gained in 2 weeks. We supplemented with formula since Friday and e wet back yesterday and gained 4oz!!!!! We were so excited. Now moving forward I am trying to figure out what to do. The dr wants to see us back in a week to make sure he is continuing to gain. I am seeing a lactation consultant tomorrow at the group I attend. I think lo's issues might be he is not emptying my breast fully on his own and is hungry. He has no issues with the formula and enjoys it and I don't mind supplementing, but I want to figure out a way to try solely breast milk pumped for a week (besides our morning feeding bc that is my favorite), but I would pump after. LO is 11 weeks. How much should he get now? 5oz? How many bottles? Every 3 hrs? I pumped 22oz yesterday in total. I think I could swing it right?

To find out how much he needs in a day, multiply his weight by 2.5 to get a ballpark amount in ounces. I believe around 11 weeks, my LO needed about 24oz (about 3-4oz per feed) and i was only producing about 20oz...and pumping less. I don't know how much your LO weighs, but 22oz seems a bit short.
If you dont think he is emptying your breasts, i would pump afterwards. If you pump out 1/2 oz per breast, he is probably feeding just fine...i am trying to remember what the lc told me.

@Caffeinated has great advice. The only thing I have to say is that you will top out with how much milk you will make (around 30 oz is normal). This is normal. Breastmilk will change as your baby gets older so it gets more caloric. Formula doesn't change calories so that is why you need to increase ounces.

Do you bf on demand now? We still bottle feed on demand. If you are trying to get him gaining, don't feel like you have to put him on a schedule just bc you are using bottles. We've always given 4 oz bottles, and sometimes they eat all 4 and sometimes not. At 5 mo my kids eat every 2-3 hrs. They do better with smaller amounts more often instead of bigger bottles, and our ped says it is good for them.

@MrsBeachyBaby: when my lo started daycare at 12 weeks. She was getting three ounce bottles every two hours of pumped milk. She was at daycare for 10 hours so ( 5 bottles / 15 ounces). Plus I nursed in the morning and about 3-4 times in the evening/night.
