Now that DS (almost 3 weeks) is coming out of the sleepy newborn phase we're having a hard time stretching feeds out. I feel like I'm feeding him all the time! The only time he makes it two hours between feedings is at night. This is great for my supply, but not so great for my sore nipples! I know it's still early so I'm not too worried about it, but I'm just curious if anyone else is in the same boat. It feels like it's beyond normal cluster feeding, rather just poor management on my part? I'm having a really hard time keeping him calm while he's awake and my mantra is "throw a boob at it!" Which leads to a cycle of eat sleep eat sleep.
My first was also a voracious eater, but she had major reflux/MSPI issues and we were always struggling to keep food in her so my perspective on "normal" is a bit off!
). My first ate a whole lot more often...probably every closer to 1-2 hours.
I can't wait for more alert times. We have about two day right now as well. This time last week I thought he would never be awake, he's so sleepy! I've seen an LC a few times, and she thinks (As do the two peds we've seen) that he does have a tongue tie, but it's very small and not worth correcting. She said it's basically up to me if I want to get it done based on the pain I can tolerate. My first had a tongue and lip tie and after we got it fixed it was still painful to feed her until her mouth got bigger. So I'm hesitant to have this one fixed, but at the same time I'm tired of being in pain! Luckily it seems to be getting a little bit better. I think I'm going to give it until early next week and then make a decision.
