When I go back to work, my ultimate goal is to breastfeed LO at night and give her formula during the day. I dont think I will be pumping at work because I work in a small office and there really is no where to pump. Is anyone not going to be pumping at work?

Do you not want to pump while at work? Because legally they are suppose to give you a room and time to pump. Can you pump in the car during lunch?
Your supply will likely decrease fast w/o you pumping during work?

@regberadaisy: depending on the state they actually don't have to allow you to pump if the business can claim that your absence during the workday is a 'hardship'.
My friend said when her LO was 10 months old she mostly nursed in the morning and in the evenings and during the day they got meals/juice/formula. In the beginning though, I don't know how possible it would be. When I returned to work I had major supply issues and that was with pumping twice during the work day and nursing once at lunch.

Yeah I know some states they do have to provide a space, but in this case there really is no room available. Its a small company and we share building space with a couple of other companies. There really is no spare room for pumping at all. I thought of pumping in my car but with that would be kinda awkward.

@Mrsbells: It is a federal law that requires them to provide a place unless you are and FLSA exempt employee. To not provide it they must be able to show without a doubt that it would be bad for their company (i.e. only 1 person on at any time). Everything I have read makes it seem that if you want to continue breastfeeding you will need to pump at least as often as your child would eat. I know that I did pump and I still had a bad drop in supply and difficulties that I went to alot to fix.

Is your only reason for not wanting to pump the fact that there's no room in which to do so? If I were you I'd pump in the car with a nursing cover. Although it can be a pain I actually didn't mind the break from work/iPhone play time during pumping!

yeah there is no spare room, and the room I am in is shared with other people and the door doesnt lock!

I won't be pumping when I go back to work (next week, ugh). I produce very little milk to begin with, so we already supplement heavily with formula. For me, it's not worth going to all of the trouble to pump and store my breast milk, when I only produce an ounce or less per feeding/pumping session. I'll probably still try to breastfeed the baby in the morning and evening for as long as my supply keeps up and baby shows interest in breastfeeding.
