HR was supposed to find me a new room to pump in beginning August 1st (because my boss won't allow me to continue pumping in our office). I haven't heard anything yet and it's already noon on July 31st ......
So stressful!

@cmomma17: I may have missed it... but did you ever meet with the President and talk to her about things?

Well you can't NOT pump, so I'd send an e-mail to HR and your boss and say that since a room hasn't been designated, you need to know if you should continue to pump in the office you've been using or go across campus to the pumping room. And make a note that if you have to go across camping, it will take you an extra 10-15 minutes each time you pump. But DON'T be apologetic about it. Be straight-forward and no-nonsense! Good luck!!!

They better follow through!!
In a pinch, would you be able to pump in your car with a cover?

@Mrs. High Heels: I was going to suggest the same thing.
Good luck!

I agree with @Adira! Be straight forward and no nonsense. Send them an email now so you won't be stressing for the rest of the day!

I would contact them and if you don't hear back I would continue pumping in your office until you hear back from them!

Thanks all! I am going to send an email this afternoon saying something along the lines of "I have not been informed of a new location for expressing breastmilk so I will continue to pump in our office until ...." My boss is out this week anyways "working from home" (I think that's code for interviewing for other jobs .... but I digress) so I am not bothering her by pumping in our office.
This whole thing has been such a mess.
@mrbee: I have not met with the president yet. I emailed her assistant yesterday asking for a meeting time. She was previously out of town but should be back in August.

@cmomma17: Definitely send that e-mail! Maybe they'll surprise you and find a place for you for tomorrow, but otherwise, definitely keep using the office!

i'm so stressed on your behalf. in other news, maybe your boss will get a new job, leave you alone and you'll have a better working environment! hope you get a good resolution some way or another!

@birdofafeather: thanks! I hope she gets a new job far away and is replaced by a lovely new boss who just happens to be a working mother ...wishful thinking I'm sure!
@dagret: I know right??? Geeeez

Feeling whiney It's 4:15 and still no room for tomorrow. I emailed HR and CC'd my boss. Basically said I'm pumping in my office until I'm told otherwise.
I totally understand why being a working mom compromises your ability to breastfeed long term. It's so stressful and discouraging. I feel so much pressure and guilt about my workload and time away from my desk. And like everyone is judging me negatively for wanting to feed my baby instead of being a superstar employee.

Checked my work email from home. HR lady just said yes, please keep pumping in your office. And that she's "awaiting confirmation." Of what? From who? I have no idea.
My boss didn't bother to respond at all or even acknowledge the issue.

@cmomma17: Good! Keep pumping there, then! Tell her you'll pump there until another location is found.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@cmomma17: At least the HR lady responded and gave you the go-ahead to continue pumping in your office!!! Definitely keep doing that!
And maybe she's got a room, but waiting to hear back from whoever's office it is (or whatever) to ensure that it's okay for you to use it.

Ugh. So hard. Honestly, even though one building I work in has a pumping room, I prefer to pump in my car. I put on the radio, check my phone, and just chill out.

@cmomma17: Glad they at least acknowledged the issue and said they are working on it.

I just want to know why they suck at their job so bad?? Why is this still not resolved? I found two rooms in a matter of days just by asking a few co-workers. It's not my job to find the rooms though, and HR has more resources and power than I do. I don't get it. And as my DH pointed out last night, this is how they are acting when they know the President of the university is aware of the situation! How would I be treated if I hadn't brought it to her attention?
And speaking of, my appointment with her is Sept 3. Wish it was sooner, but she is a busy lady!

@cmomma17: I don't know about your HR, but is it possible they are looking for something more specific to be a permanent place for you to pump? I asked my HR about another room (because our one room is totally booked and the second room isn't available yet), and to me, any room with a door and electricity would probably be fine, but the HR lady was looking for something really specific. She wanted a room with a cipher lock (so that they could just give mom's the code to get in), a dead-bolt (for privacy once we're in the room), another fridge (so we can store our milk in the room while we're not there), and something else - I forget what the something else was. But maybe that's what's going on with your HR too - they're looking for more than just a regular office.
