It should be fine for nuts, but is a no-go for dairy (M& Ms and cheese its). My LO has several allergies and I make the trail mix like this: fosted cheerios, dried blueberries, enjoy life chocolate chunks, and gluten free pretzel sticks. This contains soy, but is virtually allergy free

I don't allow DD to eat M&Ms, but I know some allergy moms do. I buy her ones from the Vermont Nut Free Company, but they are a lot pricier.

I don't expect people to accommodate my daughter's allergies. While it's sad that she's left out, it's for her own safety. I just appreciate being notified ahead of time so I can make sure to pack a special treat that she can enjoy while everyone else gets chex mix!

I'm the nut allergic one (not LO), and I don't eat M&Ms. I had a severe reaction from cross contamination about 30 years ago and my understanding is that their manufacturing practices haven't changed, though the labeling has improved.

Not as healthy as your idea, but marshmallows are very allergen friendly (dairy, nut, gluten free) , and I've seen a many Frozen themed marshmallow based treats - lots of Olafs!

@MamaG: you're welcome! Rock candy is another super allergen friendly idea (basically just sugar, water and food coloring) that goes with the Frozen theme.

This is really nice of you. I'm not an allergy mom, but after 14 months of MSPI diet (which was also nut free), I would have really appreciated that.

If you can find Enjoy Life chocolate chips, they might be a good substitute for M&Ms. They are dairy and nut free.

All the schools that DS has been to require the items to be store bought and labeled that they come from a nut free facility. We have a nut free bakery that sells its cupcakes at all of the local grocery stores in my area (just bought some last day of daycare cupcakes and cringed at the price tag of $11 for 6 for essentially grocery store cupcakes but the options are somewhat limited). I do recall asking our daycare the first time I had to bring a treat for examples of other store bought treats that are labeled to come from nut free facilities and I think I recall them saying Oreos (I find that surprising!) and Tofutti Cuties (in addition to the cupcakes that we do every time). Lots of parents seems to skip the treats altogether and just do little goodie bags with party favors.
