I've just read through some of the older nanny share threads, but I still have a burning question. Specifically in the NYC area, how much do you pay your nanny in a nanny-share or two-child situation? I've searched other sites too, but it's really hard to find the general going rate that is current.
I think Manhattan is the most expensive, and I think where we live (Hoboken/Jersey City area) is probably comparable to say...Brooklyn, in terms of childcare.
For reference---daycares here are anywhere from $1700-$2200 for 1 infant full time. Well, there's actually only 1 daycare that I know of that's $1700..most are $2000-$2100/month.
I get home at 4 pm, but they don't offer reduced rates for reduced hours. It's just full time or part time.
So..NYC area bees--- what is the current going rate for a nanny for one 6 month old infant if they were working 7:30 am-4:00 pm?
If I could find another family in the neighborhood to nanny share with, what is the going rate for 2 similarly-aged kids?
And finally, since I'm a teacher, I get a lot of holidays off. I'm fine with just paying a monthly rate to the nanny and those days being her holidays, too. BUT does that mean the nanny gets extra vacation time on top of that? Say we agree on a rate of....$1900/month, and the nanny gets 2 days for Thanksgiving, 1 1/2 weeks at Christmas, 2 days winter break, 1 day Presidents day, 1 day Easter, 1 week Spring break, etc..... and she gets paid even during my vacations when she isn't working--- Do I still have to offer extra vacation time on top of that?
Also, considering all of those holidays, how many sick days are appropriate? I only get 4 days for the entire school year for child sick leave.
A lot of questions I need, but I'd love to hear what you (or your friends) pay here!
