@Smurfette: Thank you! When I put her down she was SUPER drowsy but I still fully expected her to roar when I put her down and she did not!!! Usually if she is not 100% asleep when she hits the mattress, violent screams ensue. So one small win for me and it's not even 6am!

@PrincessBaby: The first night is DEFINITELY the worst. We had to do extinction also and it was rough for a few days. It gets way better though.
Good luck!

Like @Ree723: j has has a 1 year sleep regression. Unfortunately I'm a ft WOHM and have a) major mommy guilt issues and b) no time/energy to sleep train again. Ive been horrible about coddling him...I just can't help it!
I hope the rest of your night went okay!!

@LovelyPlum: We just sat down in her nursery to nurse after solids/bath. I have been DREADING this all day!!! I'm going to let her eat well (no matter how much solid food she eats, she ALWAYS still wants milk before bed) so I'm going to pump her up with milk and then drop her in. I'm scared. Of a 7 month old!!! Got my wine poured just waiting on my arrival into the bathroom with the vent on!!!

@PrincessBaby: You can do it again! I hear it gets better every night.

What if she wont get sleepy? She snuck a carseat capnap in on me at around 5 that couldnt have been longer than 20 mins. So wakeup was 2 hts ago but she's bouncing all over the place/wont nurse. Just keep trying? I dont want to mess up her routine by letting her play (she is bouncing in my lap right now bc she wants to jumperoo)...What do I do? Mess up routine & let her play or put her in crib fully awake at a certain point?

@PrincessBaby: I hope tonight goes better. You can do it and so can your baby! We only started sleep training a month ago, so I'm not sure if we're completely done yet, but the first night was the worst. DS cried for 5 minutes and fell asleep. But he woke 3 hours later and cried for 2.5 hours straight until I nursed him. It was AWFUL. Checks on him just made it worse, so we had to go extinction. I felt TERRIBLE, but we are still BFFs. Drink your wine, crank up that fan and believe in yourself and your baby!

@PrincessBaby: I don't know the answer to that, but I am sending you strength and H sleepy thoughts!!

@PrincessBaby: I'd probably put her in her crib still. 2 hours is a good amount of awake time. Good luck!!
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
Ok I just put her down! She must have known what was about to go down bc she started screaming before I got her in the crib! I ran into the bathroom, vent on (even locked the door? Why? Bc she may come after me?), and am on the toilet but I can still here her jaguar skinned alive cries!
So last night I went in at 15 mins. Dont do that tonight since it was epic fail, right? How long do I give it before I check on her?

@PrincessBaby: You can do this! She's gotta learn. You'll both be happier afterwards. I've heard it's 3-5 nights. You've gotten through the first one. You're almost there!
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@PrincessBaby: ohh, she knows how much you love her. Just remember you're doing this so BOTH of you will be happier. She won't even remember this in the morning.

@PrincessBaby: oh man I missed a lot today! I went on the method that I went in every 15 min the first night then increased the increments by 5 min every night after that until he finally gave in. Looooove and hugs!!

@PrincessBaby: I think you should just do full extinction and leave her be. I really sucks and is hard, but so worth it before you know it, she will be going down like clockwork!

@PrincessBaby: Well done H, and you! She's learning such a great skill, how to put herself to sleep. I hope you have a good night, we'll be thinking of you!

Thanks you guys!!! I'm happy and a little sad too bc it means she just gave up on me coming to get her:(
I'll take this down in a few, but this kid melts my heart- I gave her the silicone feeder with a banana for the first time not knowing what a mess it jwould make, and she basically destroyed a J&J outfit and had a great time doing it. She was like "Janie & Jack? Whatevs."
It totally breaks my heart to let this face cry!!!

@PrincessBaby: 13 minutes is awesome! Tomorrow night will probably be even shorter!

Aghhh she is soooo cute!!!! Haven't read the whole thread yet, but it will get easier each night!

@princessbaby: I think it is harder on us than them. I know what you mean about feeling sad that she fell asleep because it might mean she gave up on you coming. It breaks my heart to think that way, but I just try to focus on the fact that we are teaching them skills to be strong themselves.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@PrincessBaby: You're stronger than me, I tried CIO one night with me still in the room and I ended up crying more than she did and gave up pretty quickly. Now I think she's too old to do CIO with because she can call out for me and I just can't deal with hearing that. Hopefully every night will get a bit easier and soon she'll be able to soothe herself to sleep right away, which is an AMAZING skill to have.

So I just have to pop in and say that you've totally inspired me. My lo is almost 7 months and has been waking up 4+ times per night after nursing to sleep ... It's totally exhausting! I'm a teacher and on summer break, so I'm just dealing with the sleep deprivation ... But I know that won't work when school starts next month. I've been so hesitant to do CIO ... But reading through these posts and people's advice to you as well as your own play by play ... I think I can do it too ... For all our sake! Anyway, sorry to unload I just really appreciate this post! hope tonight continues to go well!
