I've always heard that ff babies can be overfed. How do you know if you're overfeeding?
Isaiah spits up often, but his spit up is mostly clear and it doesn't only happen at mealtimes so I don't think overfeeding is causing it.

DS was on formula and very rarely was he overfed! he was always really good about stopping when he was full. the one or two times he did over eat, he let us know by giving us back the bottle, almost immediately after he was done!

I don't think my son was overfed, he'd eat what he wanted, if that made sense. He knew his fullness level very early on.

Mine definitely won't eat if she's not hungry. She sticks her tongue out and just plays with the bottle's nipple. And she's following her growth curve great. At 9 weeks, we give her 4 oz approximately every 3 hours (which is when she cries for it or acts hungry)

My friend's baby loves his food. He guzzles down his bottle (formula) and then cries as if he is being starved! I guess its because it comes out so quick, it takes a while to register in his brain that he is full! He does it with his purees too, he gets really sad when its all gone!!! He would eat and eat if she let him! When she gives him extra (formula or puree), thinking maybe he is still hungry, he brings it all back up again!!! So to combat this tendency to eat and eat, she has to be strict with the measurements, making sure he gets the correct amount for his age/weight and then she gives him his paci after he has eaten the to tide him over until he realises he is full!!
I reckon as long as he isn't getting much more than it says on the feeding guidelines, you're pretty safe.

A FF baby will projectile vomit on you if you overfeed them. Generally, they will stop before they get there, like any other baby.

@Cherrybee: my LO was just like this. he drank it down so fast he didn't have enough time to realize he was full. everyone kept telling me he was still hungry after his bottles because he would cry, but his paci calmed him right down.

We have always used a premie nipple, even now. I watched for tongue thrusting, distractedness, popping off the bottle to look at stuff, drowsiness, pushing the bottle as clues she was done. Same cues I used wih breast feeding.
