I feel like I read somewhere that you shouldn't use pacifiers or bottle nipples from baby #1 on baby #2... Am I making this up?
With only 2-3 weeks left of this pregnancy, I'm trying to figure out if I need to get all new or if I can re-use?

I would replace the pacis at least. Our bottle nipples are in really good shape, so I would keep those and buy a second set just so I won't have to do dishes so often.

@CarrieLouWho: I was planning on reusing nipples on bottles as long as they were still in good shape!

Replaced pacis and reused the nipples that were new or in like new condition from ds1

I heard the flow level can be effected. I only heard that after reusing them for DS2.
That being said, he never really took a bottle, but I SAH, so we never tried that hard. Don't know if it was the nipple or not.

DS never took to a paci so we'll have to get new ones for #2. We'll also be getting new nipples since DS was a chewer and tore them up like crazy!

I replaced both. I felt like baby #2 deserved fresh! After all they were used a lot!

DD really doesn't use her pacifiers so they'll be in great shape for #2.
And we are already using bottle nipples that were passed down to us from a friend so they are on their second child already. No issues!

I replaced pacis and was going to use the same bottles but DD didn't like the ones DS used so I had to get all new bottles/nipples

If they weren't chewed on, it wouldn't occur to me to replace. I mean, they would use the same dishes at some point.

I'm planning on replacing her pacifiers but sanitizing and reusing the nipples, providing they are still in decent shape.

I replaced paci. Even though DS never took to them, we did try several times with them and I just felt better replacing them. Plus, they were blue so I got DD some new ones. We are reusing bottle nipples because DS wouldn't take the silicone ones and I bought him latex, but DD has been taking the silicone ones fine so we are using those for her since they are basically (or some of them literally are) brand new.
Didn't seem like a huge expense to replace for me to have peace of mind but I've read articles stating that silicone (which is what most baby products are these days) doesn't degrade quickly as long as they are physically in good shape, you're fine to reuse I would think!

Thanks everyone! For some reason it was sticking in my head that it was a "have to replace", but I'm not sure why! I'm going to blame it on pregnancy brain!
Based on feedback I'll plan on checking out what still looks like it's in good shape and reuse those things and pick a few new for replacements if needed.
I knew I could count on the hive!

It didn't really occur to me to replace, so we've been using "used" nipples.

I'm getting new bottles, only because LO1's were in such rough shape and worn. For paci's, LO1 never liked them so we have a few, but we'll see if this baby even likes them...

I got new pacifiers for DD2, but reused the bottle nipples

I tossed all of them from LO #1. I think you are supposed to replace them every 3 months anyways, but didn't feel comfortable using them after being in our attic for 2 years.

We received a large lot of lightly used bottles/nipples from my best friend and used them for over a year for DS1. They're still in good condition from what I can see so I assumed we'd reuse them for LO2. Is there any specific reason why it's not good to reuse?

I checked out all the pacis (which my daughter never used!) and bottle nipples and everything looks good and not degraded at all so in going to sanitize and reuse.

We tried the old pacis so we could see what shape DD liked before buying new.

@MoreCoffee: I feel like I remember reading it somewhere (HB Boards, Baby Center, I'm not sure) but then I couldn't really find anything to back up the recommendation. So, of course this weekend when I was getting stuff ready for LO2, I couldn't remember if it was something we should replace, or use if it looked ok/still worked fine.

@CarrieLouWho: I think I saw it on the packaging for the bottles that the nipples/pacis should be replaced every 3 months (!!) but I just took that as a marketing scheme to get me to spend money every 3 months.

i kept all my bottles/nipples to reuse because they didn't get a lot of use to begin with. Pacis did though and we have lost so many over the past couple of years, we will likely just up buying new ones. plus i remember i had so much fun picking out cute ones with little sayings on them, i will probably do that again.

I tossed the bottles because they were pretty beat up from lots of use. I did keep a paci that DS barely used, boiled it, and tried to give it to DD out of desperation when she wouldn't take two different kinds of new pacis. Still no luck... my kids have a problem with pacifiers for some reason.
