We did a pack and play and then transitioned to the crib at 3 months and it was fine! We will do the same with dd2

E slept in the pack n play in our room until 7 months and then switched to a crib no problem.

We did both kids in a crib in their own room from day 1.
Actually that’s a lie. My first son was in a bassinet in our room for 2 weeks. But no one was getting good sleep so we moved him to a crib in his own room.

In my opinion (my OPINION, folks) the whole keeping them in your room recommendation is a bit extreme...and it’s just that, a recommendation - not a requirement. My ped had zero issue with them going to their own room so early. It made everything so much easier - one less thing to transition. Easier to sleep train. They woke up less (didn’t hear or smell us). Easier to have a routine. We still kept our adult space.

I remember your whole transition with sleep training and moving to the crib, etc Make your life easier this time around.

I just had baby number two and I'm in the same boat. We moved him to his crib at 11 weeks (had him in a bassinet) and tho rough at first it was way better than keeping him in our room. He's been sleeping better since I cut out my afternoon cup of coffee. I EBF but he doesn't nurse much at night. The crib seems comically big but we needed to sleep separate!

I had both of my girls in a rock and play and then a mini pack and play next to my bed for the first six months. There was no problem moving them to the crib. Although, with second girl, I did have to do a little sleep training. But I think that would have been necessary regardless of if I kept her in my room or her own room.

@cake2017: I was really reluctant to use it with first baby. I heard that it would make the transition to the flat crib very difficult. But, I became desperate at some point, so we used it and the baby loved it. Then, we used it from the get go with baby #2. We really did not have problems moving them to the flat crib at 6 months.

@SweetiePie: Wow, that had never crossed my mind... to move myself rather than baby.

As for what is good for baby or transitioning... I totally failed on that one, but my LO is an awful sleeper anywhere, but maybe that is my fault for what we did. We had him in the PNP in our room until just over 6 months. Well until around 5 months, then we co-slept for a month cause he was doing awful in it and cosleeping at least got us all some sleep. I always figured if he's going to wake, he might as well be right near me to feed/etc, and never thought he might sleep better away from me since he did better cosleepign than in the pnp right next to me. We finally moved him (cause he was still waking every 2 hrs) and started sleep training at the same time, and that hasn't been easy (only 5 nights in right now)... but once again I don't know if it was caused by sleeping arrangements or if that's just the way he would have been anyways. (I like to think the latter and that this awful sleeping wasn't *entirely*my fault, but who knows )

@agold: omg, holding her all night sounds awful! How did you function! Yeah, DS was waking up every 5-45 minutes and needing help to fall back asleep from the time he went to bed around 6-7pm till his first feeding at 10pm in his pnp. So we let him sleep in our bed, even without us there, he'd finally sleep 1.5-2 hrs or so. And I'd just nurse every time cause that'd make him go right back to sleep. He's going down a lot easier now than the first 3 days, and crying less during wake ups, even though the wake ups can still be plenty... I'm hopeful that it shouldn't be too much longer until he just wakes for his 2 feeds - one when I go to bed and just one overnight.
