Our hospital has been slammed in September/October. When I went in for my non-stress test a couple of weeks ago, they put me in a recovery bed that they've NEVER used because things were so busy there that day. And my doc was irritated that I was there because he was so slammed with deliveries. They said things slow down in November...and I was glad to hear it!
The hospital I'm delivering at is so popular regardless. They want you to register there as soon as you find out you are pregnant because they fill up and have to turn people away that show up for things like elective inductions and whatnot.

December was a slow month for our births at our hospital but I still had to wait a long time for my C-section because there were a lot of emergencies in the ER that morning and my OB had to help them out there!

December was a slow month for my hospital. The maternity ward was so festive though, lights and decorations, and they brought me hot apple cider and cocoa. They also sent DS home with a stocking. I loved having a Christmas baby.

That's not surprising to me. There was a chart making the rounds a while back that ranks the popularity of every birthday of the year: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2145471/How-common-birthday-Chart-reveals-date-rates.html
The popular days are all clustered from mid summer-early fall. People decide to make babies in the winter

Really?! How funny. I generally thought dec/jan isn't as busy but I have three pg friends due then!!
I think may and September are busy months too

I always thought spring and early summer were the most popular times. At the hospital I work the last couple of months have been crazy. They have been delivering in traige rooms. They were almost at the point of defering patients to other hospitals (hospitlas rarely do this to avoid losing money). Our NICU was full too.

Feb seems to be pretty light, so I hope to have lots of attention at the hospital! Although knowing my luck we will have a Feb. baby boom.

I was just researching this the other day - it's so interesting! In the US, July, August and September are the busiest months, but in Europe, births tend to peak earlier in the spring. Apparently, even though lots of people study the seasonality of birth, no one really knows why some months are more popular than others.

DD was born in June, and the hospital was filled to capacity the whole week she born; conversely, DS was born in March, and we were literally the only people in l&d the entire time we were there!

There was also a small Hurricane Irene baby boom in the Northeast. My friend had her baby 9 months after Irene hit and her birthing classes were the largest her instructor had ever seen, all due within a week or so of each other! Obviously, that's anecdotal, not research

July was busy at our hospital. They sent me to another one because hey had no more beds. I was glad though, the one they sent me to was way nicer than my original one so it was a bonus. They weren't busy at all I had a double room all to myself. They said it was because I had twins so they gave me the extra space.

Our hospital is the busiest in October....our hospital tour (Oct 1st) and it was already pretty packed! I am sort of glad we're not there yet as they anticipated today as a big induction date with the "10/11/12" date, we can go anytime after that influx has come and gone, lol.
I never did ask downtime....maybe for the next one

january is a pretty light month so it would be nice to have the run of the place when LO arrives, but it's funny because my sis, SIL, aunt and i were all born in january! must be a family thing.
