My son has a peanut allergy but didn't do component testing. It's my understanding that AHA H 2 is the most important component for peanut allergies, with AHA H 1 and 3 secondary. So I think your results indicate a clear class 2 peanut allergy.

There's a good group of FB called "Food Allergy Moms" that might be able to answer your question. I know a bunch of them have experience with component testing.

@Dr. Pepper: Ugh, that IS scary. My guess (although who knows) is maybe his allergy was more severe than your son's. Has your son been exposed to peanuts? What was his reaction? Has your son had tree nuts and/or did your allergist test for them? We were told that 50% of kids who have peanut allergies also have tree nut allergies. My son is also allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame, so I totally feel you.

@Dr. Pepper: I know with our allergist, it takes a while to get in the first time after a referral (and our dermatologists are even worse), but once you're a patient, you can get appointments much more easily! Hopefully your allergist is like that too. Although if your allergist is only writing up a letter with information about the results, that kind of sucks. I'd want an appointment so I could ask all my questions and get answers immediately!

Definitely sounds like a peanut allergy though, and his results indicate the same. If you haven't had tree nuts yet, I'd maybe avoid them for now too until you get more information from your allergist. Sorry you are dealing with this!

P.S. - I just got introduced to Wow Butter, which is made from soy. It tastes almost IDENTICAL to peanut butter and my whole family loves it!

@Dr. Pepper: Yes, we tried SunButter first, but my kids didn't really like it. Wow Butter tastes closer to peanut butter, in my opinion. But maybe you'll like SunButter better!

@Dr. Pepper: Well, hopefully you like SunButter, since it sounds like that's more available to you! And I hear you about the love of peanut butter!! We love it too. It used to be our go-to for sandwiches for our 4 year old, and so not being able to give them to him was a bummer. We still eat Reese's after the kids go to bed though.

Hives and swelling - any chance he was bitten by something? Poor kid.

@Dr. Pepper: Are the hives itchy at all? Poor kid. Hopefully it goes away or you figure it out soon!

We still have Reese's and Snickers in the house - we just eat them at night after the kids go to bed. I'll also have peanut butter or peanuts at work, as long as it's early in the day. I try to make sure I stop consuming anything peanut-related 3-4 hours before I'm going to pick up the kids.

@Dr. Pepper: The fact that it's limited to his hands and feet and is itchy and there are a LOT of them makes me think it's HFM! The fact that it's been ruled out is annoying. Since it's itchy though, my advice is cool water, lots of hydrocortisone, and Benadryl!
