We will be traveling with LO and bringing the pnp for her to sleep in. She slept in it without the mattress when she was a nb but it has gotten a little saggy (we will be using the lower setting) and it seems a little hard for her now.
On the other hand I don't really want to spend the money...
I'm not 100% on the hotel so I'm not sure if they offer cribs but for some reason the idea kind of grosses me out tbh.
What would you do?

You can buy foam padding at Jo-ann's that ranges from thin to several inches thick. Maybe get some of that and put it under the mattress?

We are going to use a hotel Pack and Play in July and I was going to order a playpen mattress and have either amazon.com or diapers.com ship it to the hotel and either bring it back or leave it there. (I think it was around $40.)

I bought an portable pnp mattress from here:

after we used the pnp for the first time and had the most miserable night of sleep (or absolutely no sleep) ever. I think he slept for 2 hours that night. It was the worst! With the mattress topper he sleeps like a dream.

We got a room with 2 queen beds, DH and I slept in one, and we stripped the other down to the fitted sheet for DS to sleep in. It worked out quite well.
