If you had your LO semi-regularly sleeping in a PnP, did you buy a mattress for it, or just use the 1-inch thick pad that came with it?

We didn't have him sleep in it regularly and even so, he would never sleep on that mat that came with it. We had to buy a separate mattress to put in there when he did use.

I just lay some towels/blankets down under a fitted sheet to make it more comfy for DD now that she's bigger. When she was an infant she used the mattress that came with it plus a quilted sheet which were a little thicker and softer.

LO used one for naps until she was 20 months and still uses it occasionally for weekends at my parents (26 months). We just used the mattress that came with it.

@DesertDreams88: I went back and forth on it for a while but since she was going to be in our room for 4-5 months I decided to go for it. We purchased the Dream on Me mattress from Amazon. I am glad we had it while she was little!
Also, we bought American Baby playard sheets on Amazon as well- fits that mattress perfectly, super soft, and held up great with washes!

We also bought the Dream on Me mattress from Amazon. He sleeps on it just a well as he does at home, although we never tried it without the mattress so I can't compare. It was cheap enough that we decided it was worth it!

Same we have the Dream on Me mattress and American Baby sheet. DS is sleeping in the hotel crib this week and his sleep is definitely not as great.

Third for the Dream on Me mattress from Amazon. It wasn't expensive, and I didn't feel comfortable having baby sleep on the pad that came with the PNP because it's so thin.

I bought a twin sized foam mattress pad and cut it to fit my PNP pad. It works. My daughter will now sleep in it. But I didn't do it until she was 1.

I used the mattress that came with it for both kids, and a nice cozy tight swaddle. Neither seemed to mind it. I was always nervous about SIDS and by those guidelines baby should be flat on his back on a firm mattress.

@skipper2010: yeah that's actually why I'm nervous, it only came with a soft, 1 inch thick pad.... doesn't seem to fit the guidelines.

Starting at 8 months, we were traveling pretty often including a 3 week trip to Korea. She was a great crib sleeper so I wanted her to be just as comfortable in the pack and play.
We got the this portable mattress.

I loved we can fold it and easily transport it too. It was pricy but worth it bc she slept great in all her travels. She still uses it in her playroom underneath her tent.

@skipper2010: same here. Worried about SIDS. Didn't even use the quilted mattress cover I bought until she was about 4 mo old because it seemed too soft for a newborn! Babies are so light and don't know any better that a firm mattress is better. I think my now probably 25 lb 15 mo old would want a little more padding but definitely not worth the risk in the first few months.

She didn't sleep for long in the pnp at home so we never got one for it. We had to get a pnp for daycare, so I got a used one that comes with the mattress so she could be more comfy.

Our pack and play (Graco) specifically says on it not to use any mattress with it due to SIDS. DD2 has been sleeping on the bassinet part since she was born. She is currently 8 weeks old. Maybe I'm a worrywart but we decided to forego. Maybe we will change our mind when she is over a year but we plan to start using the crib soon and the pack and play will just be for travel.
