Did anyone here have a follicle count done before you started your IVF cycle? If so, did your IVF cycle generate the same, more or less amount of follicles?

So I might be wrong, but I think your antral follicle count is unaffected by ivf meds. On CD 3 they count your follicles before you've had any meds. Mine were usually around 20, I think for each ovary. The meds the stimulate those follicles. But if you have 20 to start in a cycle, the meds aren't going to give you 30. Make sense?

@ShootingStar: yes, that does make sense. Thank you. I was wondering if it was possible for the meds to make more. My follicle count today was 14. But i'm also at the tail end of a cycle waiting on CD1 to start my IVF cycle. Thank you for your input!

I googled this and looks like there is some correlation but some people say they had more eggs than follicles on CD3. I'm curious about his as well- I have a great FSH, terrible AMH, and AFC of 10.

@AmeliaBedilia: Thanks for looking into it. I anticipate I'll google the crap out of it over the weekend. I suppose time will tell for both of us! Best of luck to you.

@agold: thanks. I'm in the 2.5WW (ovidrel shot for implantation support so RE wants to wait a few extra days) of IUI#1. I waver between great optimism (have some issues we are fixing like
Prolactin) and thinking nothing will ever work.

@AmeliaBedilia: Good luck during your 2.5WW.I waiver between the same emotions all the time also. How many follicles/eggs did you end up with?

@agold: I had an AFC done before I started my BCP for IVF and it was 11 I think. The docTor explained that the AFC along with my FSH (9.?) and AMH (10.2 in Canadian units) would provide some direction on dosage for meds.
I am considered borderline DOR and we got 17 eggs at retrieval, 16 were mature but only 11 fertilized with ICSI.

My AFC was 30 (done at the beginning of treatments, 9 months before IVF #1), and I got 16 eggs in IVF #1 and 19 eggs in IVF #2. They weren't great quality though (none to freeze) so more isn't always more. I think I've heard right around 10 is a good number of eggs to get. Good luck!

@mrswin: 11 being fertilized sounds like a great number. Good job lady, especially considering the borderline DOR. Thanks for your input.
@Shutterbug: Thank you! I can totally agree that more isn't always equal to great.

@agold: I did Femara 5mg and ovidrel. On CD 9 I had two follicles, 18mm and 16mm. I triggered night of CD11 and IUI morning of CD13. I asked about twins and he downplayed likelihood, but I have read that ovidrel often makes you ovulate both.

Mine was 16 and I got 12 eggs...11 fertilized, 9 progressed normally, transferred 2, 4 made it to freeze.

@agold: Thanks. Of the 11 we had 3 make it to blast. We transferred one (our DD!) and have 2 in storage. More important then the number of eggs is always the quality and be prepared for losing some a each stage of the process.

My AFC was 20 and 23 eggs were retrieved. So three more showed up during the process. 18 were mature, 12 fertilized, transferred 2 and froze 7.

I don't remember what my count was but I know they retrieved 12, 10 were mature, 8 fertilized by ICSI, 7 frozen, 2 thawed for FET.

@Mrs. Pinky: Hi! Thanks for asking. No update yet. I'm just now starting the IVF process. In the second week of birth control pills and starting injections on the 3rd. I'm going for an appointment of some sort tomorrow so I will know more after that.
@bluestriped bee: Those are great numbers!
