Anyone else? It's not completely out of the blue since our governor has said it's unlikely schools will reopen this year, but nothing set in stone.

Not set in stone, but they said unlikely to reopen for rest of the school year.

We've still only had the officially announced two-week closure (of which one week has now elapsed). It's crazy-making, because CLEARLY it's going to be longer, but no one is saying how long.

Our preschool is following the public schools in the area. That meant they originally announced a two-week closure (which we all knew wouldn't actually be only two weeks). Yesterday all schools announced they would be closed until at least April 27th - but even that doesn't seem likely. I assume DD won't be going back at all, which is still making me incredibly sad.

Ours is technically closed through April 15, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that changes.

Our preschool is part of the daycare. They are closed this week but are optimistic about re-opening as soon as it is safe. A little bit of a different situation but I am hoping DS can go back to his Pre-K Prep class for a few months before transitioning to the next level as we adore his teacher and his friends.

Ours is closed down until the end of April, not certain if it will reopen then.
Question for everyone: are your schools expecting to paid the same for the months they are closed? We got a "reminder" from our provider that payment for April was due in full as usual because the contract states there are no changes in the event of "unforeseen" closures. I kind of get it, many of the expenses like rent stay the same and the provider wants to continue making her salary of course (it's a small in-home care with one teacher). I want to support her but my income is now cut in half because of not being able to work while I have no childcare. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but it seems like the provider now gets a full six-week-long paid vacation while I'm trying to scramble to work and parent and pay her. When I requested whether she could adjust the rates slightly, she simply replied that all of her expenses would remain the same so she wouldn't reduce rates. I mean, it might not be much, but she doesn't have to buy food or supplies for a full month. I'm resigned to sending in the April payment but curious what others are finding...
(Oh, I see now there is a whole thread about this: https://boards.hellobee.com/topic/daycarepreschool-closed-still-pay-tuition)

@Orange Lily: That's tough! What happens if you don't? Will you lose the spot? My son's preschool isn't charging tuition during closure and my daughter's isnt requiring but is accepting it.

@Orange Lily: Ours is not requiring tuition but is accepting it. They are planning on offering refunds or credits to those who have already paid. We have prepaid for the remainder of the year (just April and May) and don't plan on accepting the refund. It sucks but this is the kind of thing that could end our small non profit preschool. Our teachers are making daily videos, sending home activity ideas, and touching base with parents through text and email daily.

@catgirl @crazydoglady Thanks, it does suck! I understand that she needs income and want to support her, but I just feel that she should allow for some flexibility, like tuition at 75%, deferred payment, or other measures if families ask, given that we are in truly unprecedented times. FWIW, she is not providing any virtual materials during this time; it's a Waldorf school so not big on digital media! And I don't think my 3-year-old would get a ton out of it anyway, so I don't mind.
I don't know what would actually happen if I just didn't pay. Technically it violates the contract and she could lose her spot, but it's not like the provider can fill it right now. I suppose she could sue me in small claims court. We have a great relationship and DD is going there again next year, so I don't want to mess it up, but am just upset that she is offering zero flexibility in a time when everyone else is dealing with upheavals and changes. And I did send her a nicely worded email asking for her to consider some flexibility and she just said, nope.
