I pump twice a day, nurse before work, during lunch hour and twice before DS goes to bed. I get 6-8oz total the two times I pump at work. I'm usually a bit ahead with the stored breastmilk I have. I've never been able to pump much (I use a Medela Pump In Style), even with being on domperidone.
For me 1oz wouldn't be worth it as I feel time escapes me all week long. Maybe add in a few extra pumps over the weekend to store during the week?

You should be pumping at least as often as your baby is eating. When on leave would your baby only nurse 2x during the day?

@regberadaisy: Right, you are gone for what I assume is at least 8 hours but are only pumping twice. You are pumping 4 hours after the last pump session. Your body thinks it doesn't have to make as much. If you were at home at that time, how often would your baby nurse? That is how often you should pump.

When I first started working (my son was 8 weeks old) I pumped 3 times and nursed him before, at lunch and after work. It was just the way it has to be. If you are non exempt (typically hourly) they have to let you pump whenever you need to. As he got older I went to 2 times a day and then to 1 time a day when my schedule changed. Now at 1 year old I am pump weaned.

On the weekends, spend all your time nursing each weekend (for a few weeks). The added demand will help increase your supply.

@regberadaisy: It is hard, but if you want to breastfeed, it is important.

Typically I would add the pump session in for a week and that would help. Try it for a week and see what happens. If it increases it then you can go a few weeks and do it again for a week. So, you would only give up a little for a week.

Also, with your pump parts, keep as much together as you can so you can efficiently pump. I would just put the shells and such into the fridge without taking them apart or cleaning them (I would wipe them real fast).

You can also take Mothers Milk Tea to increase supply.

Remember, that often we are spent by the evenings (especially if we are pumping). So, don't worry if you aren't getting as much at that time, it's completely normal.

I pump three times during work at 9, 12, and 3 and I nurse her before at 630am then again for bedtime around 7pm. I can get 10-12 oz during my daytime pump sessions and I pump another 4-7 oz at my midnight pump before bed for a total of 14-19 oz a day. I find that since LO sleeps through the night that i have to maintain the midnight pump so my body keeps up supply. LO takes three 5 oz bottles when I'm at work so I'm pumping enough to keep up with her intake and can store some as well. My pump output varies pretty widely depending on time of month (4.5 months pp and already on second period even though I'm EBF!).
