So frustrating!!! That seemed to happen to me even when I was in another room. I could never understand how women could pump and breastfeed because I could never seem to have enough time to do it without her crying for it.

Babies can definitely smell the milk. I'd be pumping in the middle of the night in the kitchen and my son would wake up crying almost every time. The door to his nursery would always be shut too. When we sleep trained I couldn't be involved because my son would be able to smell my milk and would get more worked up knowing he wasn't getting it so my husband did the sleep training.
