DH and I are headed out today to get a new "big girl bed" for Liv since she is a professional crib climber. We decided to go with a full or queen mattress on the floor instead of a toddler bed. Question is, what are some guidelines I should look for in the mattress? How firm, how plush etc? Any ideas? I can't find anything online about this. She's 19 months old FWIW

Hmmm... I know a girlfriend of mine got a Queen bed for her daughter and loved it. Lots of room to tuck her in and she wasn't near an edge. The only issue they had was the bed frame + box spring + mattress was WAY too high. For a while they just had the frame plus the mattress to help lower it. You won't have that issue since it will be on the floor.

I'd say full, personally. She'll probably use it all through her childhood, but it'll be too old to take to college with her. My daughter sleeps on a full futon, and it is really ideal for snuggling.

My 2yo sleeps on a regular full size mattress on the floor, no boxspring or frame. He's rolled off onto the carpet a few times, but usually he just gets back into bed now (once I found him asleep on the floor in the morning--I guess it was too much work to get back into bed!). His mattress is fairly firm and I put an organic cotton mattress pad (not plush) on it since I'm kind of leery of the chemicals mattresses are treated with, but a totally org mattress was way out of our price range.
