Hi ladies.
It's that time to get on the preconception prenatal vitamin hunt.... Exciting times ahead. What prenatal vitamin did you take and which would you recommend?

I've been taking nature made and I've been very happy with them.

i take rainbow light prenatal one multivitamin. they are kind of big, so i split it in half and take one half at noon and the other half before i go to bed.

I also take Rainbow Light Prenatal One! The pills are pretty big but I like that it's all natural and I never had any bad reactions from them. I hear some ladies get nauseated from their prenatal vitamins so I'm glad this didn't make me nauseated.

Another vote for Rainbow Light. I never had any nausea problems with them.

Wow these are all ones I haven't heard of?! I got recommended blackmores... Anyone have any feedback on that one?

I take New Chapter Perfect Prenatal which I like but I might switch to rainbow light. The new chapter one its three polls per day and they say you absorb it better that way but it is hard to remember! I like that it is whole foods based and has probiotics.
If you are in the US and have a flex account you can use your flex account to pay for prenatals if you get a "prescription" from your doctor.
I can't say I have ever heard.of blackmores, sorry!

Hmm maybe blackmores is just an Australian one... I'll be looking into the ones you've all recommended though!! So many on the market- so confusing!!

I take a folic acid supplement. I got it at Wal-Mart. I'm not sure of the brand.

@chopsuey, check out the amazon comments about the vitafusion gummies. those had me concerned when i was researching options. my doctor wanted me on something with iron, so that also ruled those out for me.
i am/was a huge fan of the vitafusion line tho. my husband takes them and i was taking those vitamins before i got pregnant.
i take a prescription one called "prenatal plus iron"... so generic sounding! i also take a nordic naturals DHA supplement.

I take the Naturemade that has DHA in the pill also. I hate the idea of having to buy two separate pills, it makes them a bit pricier but whatever.

I just started the Rainbow Light Petite prenatals (like, yesterday). My sister advised me to get these since they are food based, better absorption, and it's 3 regular sized pills instead of a horse pill. I also take a calcium and D gummy because I can't drink milk.
The petites were a little more expensive-- I got them at Whole Foods, but I'll buy a big bottle online as long as they don't make me nauseous.

Preconception I took the regular Nature Made, post conception I switched to the Nature Made with DHA. My doc said to wait on the DHA until I was about 16w because of nausea. When I was BF DD I took the DHA until I ran out and then switched back to the regular ones; plan to do the same this time mainly due to cost and already having some regular ones leftover. I either buy them at Costco or watch for BYGO sales where I'll stock up.

What's wrong with the Vitafusion gummy prenatals?? That's what I've been taking since I always get sick after taking a pill vitamin but I don't want to take them if they're not good!

I took prescription prenatals Citra-Natal harmony. These also have a stool softener so that helped. I tried a few other brands before I settled on these. They are a bit expensive but worth it. Now that I am nursing I just take the gummies

I took prescription Prenexa and I liked them (they have a stool softener, which you may or may not want). But my insurance is crappy and I had to pay $40 to fill it each month. Now that I'm breastfeeding, I take the One A Day prenatals and I think they give me some (much needed) energy.

I've been taking the One A Day with DHA but I take them right before I go to bed. Otherwise, they used to make me really nauseated.

I like nature made too but after reading this post I'm curious about the Vitafusion gummy prenatals! They sound so yummy.

@Trailmix: it seems like there is some debate over whether vitamin A in the form of retinyl palmitate is ok or not, and in what quantities it would be ok. (vitafusion's vitamin A component is from RP, and many other prenatals have vitamin A in the form of beta carotene)
another issue is that it doesn't contain iron which is specifically something i needed and probably something that many pregnant women need.

I started off (for nearly a year) taking the Vitafusion gummies because I hate big pills, but then I started reading a great book called "Do chocolate lovers really have sweeter babies" and it pushed for vitamins with much higher volumes of individual vitamins. So I started taking Centrum Specialist Prenatal, which is a big vitamin and a big DHA liquid gel. I've especially loved the high iron content, since I can be somewhat anemic. I haven't had any belly issues, as I take them right before bed.

I took predate elite until we switched insurance and it would have cost me $200 every 90 days. Ridiculous! I was paying $43 every 90 days. Then my OB told me to just buy a store brand like Target and so that's what I took until my second trimester when I needed to add DHA in some started buying Nature Made with DHA from Costco. Still taking it bc I'm nursing. It's a big gel pill though.

Rainbow Light Prenatal One. I get them at Target. They are huge, but I've never had a problem swallowing large pills.
