If your LO has a late birthday and you had the option to redshirt, would you? Why or why not?

The other thread about HS graduation got me thinking...(esp because DS is a late Nov baby) on what we will do...

In Michigan, the law now is that the "cut-off" date is the child has to be 5 by: Nov 1 (2013-14 school year), Oct 1 (2014-15), Sept 1 (2015-16)

So I'm assuming by the time this will relevant for us (2016-2017) school year, it will likely be the Sept 1 cut off.

This can be waived for parents who choose to enroll their children (born before 12/31) even if they don't meet the cut off dates... DS will be 4 years and 9 months ish... so we are hoping to send him "on time."

While it will depend very much on where he is at individually on all levels, academically/emotionally/developmentally/etc. I was defaulted to being "red-shirted" when I immigrated to the US from Korea... and HATED being the oldest, tallest, taking advanced courses all the time, etc. It's a wash now, but I didn't enjoy it.
