DS was posterior, vacuum extraction, giant medio lateral episiotomy. It took forever to heal. Around 4 months PP I realized I had granulation tissue. I also had trapped nerves around 6 months PP. I couldn't sit up for a long time or jump for almost a year because the pressure would ache/hurt. Honestly, almost two years later and there are times where I am aware of it (thongs, certain exercises like lunges, eh).
I will say, the granulation tissue healed on its own and you can't see any scar at all.

I went to see my OBGYN at 6 month pp because sex was still really painful and I would sometimes feel sore just sitting around. He found granulation tissue practically hanging out of me (hope you're not eating). With a hand mirror it was really obvious but like I told the doctor, I'm not exactly excited to look down there pp. It was removed at that appointment. I don't remember if they numbed it first. It healed in a couple. Sex still hasn't improved but sitting, squats, and lunges aren't a problem anymore.

I just found out I have scar tissue yesterday (at 6 months pp). I had been having pain for a while though.
I had third degree tearing in multiple directions. My fave quote from the doctor as she was stitching me up was "you're going to have to sit on ice packs for weeks!" - and I sure did!!!
I'm supposed to massage the area with an estrogen cream every other night, and just lube or vitamin E oil the other nights. It freaks me out a little! If the massage and estrogen doesn't help by January I have to go in to get it cut off and then re-sewn! Yikes!!!

bumping this because I'm going in to have my scar tissue cut off tomorrow AM!
I'm a little scared. Advice from anyone who has been there? I'm wondering how I'll feel afterwards, how quick recovery is, etc.?

@cmomma17: @rachiecakes: @Corduroy: old post but checking to see how things turned out for everyone.
I am 2 years postpartum and still have a band of scar tissue that tears and scars every time we DtD. The Doc thinks it is the nature of my skin rather than poor healing/repair/etc, so surgery isn't recommended. I just weaned and I am supposed to try the estrogen cream but I am a little reticent, for no reason that I am conscious of.
How'd everything work out for you all?

@lizzywiz: I am 13 months postpartum now and we finally DTD recently. It was painful for me each time. This was after using the estrogen cream, having the scar tissue cut off (perineoplasty), and doing physical therapy (I'll leave those details out unless you really want them, lol).
I think if I continue the physical therapy consistently things would improve. I'm also hoping maybe stopping breastfeeding would help too, but we are still nursing morning and night.

@cmomma17: yeah, the breastfeeding doesn't help but I wasn't going to wean for sex if my husband could deal. On the other had, right before we weaned, my OB said my bits were 'atrophied' and pale in color due to low blood flow, all secondary to breast feeding...atrophied?!?!
We weaned about a month ago and things already are a bit different down there, so I have hope....but still nervous and not looking forward to trying, lol.

@lizzywiz: I'm 14.5 month pp now and sex is finally meeting my pp expectations - slightly different than before but not painful. It took until 13 months to feel OK. 14 months for pretty good.
I saw an OB for IUD removal last month. He didn't mention seeing any scar tissue this time. After my IUD removal I realized I had been feeling it DTD which surprised me (I had one before and never felt it). DH also complained about it every time we DTD even though the doctor said there was no way DH could possibly feel it since the strings were trimmed too short. He never complained about my pre-baby IUD so I don't know what to make of that.
Im still BFing 2-3 times a day. LO got sick recently and nursed more. I don't know if it's related but shortly after her increased nursing DTD was less comfortable again. I gave up on the estrogen pretty quickly since I didn't see results.

@Corduroy: I wouldn't be surprised if it is the breastfeeding.
I am now a month from weaning and I am definitely, DEFINITELY, wetter than I have been past two years. Unfortunately that still leaves the band of scar tissue but at least the dryness is addressed.
Thanks for your replies on this tender (lol) subject, ladies!
