So I am at home with my four kids all day. I tend to do one art project or activity a day. When I was talking to my friend about what we did during the day she said I was a crazy science mom. It was simple things like building a river in our front yard with foil, or vinegar and baking soda volcanoes, giant bubbles. Am I a nerdy science mom or are these things that other moms do?

My mom did! When I was little we had a science club with some other children and every Saturday we would switch which house we were at and the mom would a science lesson for all of us. I was pretty little but I do actually remember it and thinking it was so much fun!

Nerdy science moms are awesome. I bought my infant a childrens book that is all HTML code.

I'm sure by "nerdy science mom" your friend actually meant "super awesome mom."
I try to do something every day, too, but lately it's been activities that require little to no preparation or clean-up (like nature hikes, gluing leaves to paper, floating various random items down the river, etc...).

That is awesome! Not all moms do that stuff, but I think it's great. Your kids are learning all about the natural world through your activities. Also, your kids are learning that women can be interested in science, which I think is a very important thing to learn at a very early age. (Full disclosure: I am a professional scientist, so I am naturally very committed to encouraging female role models in science!)

I don't so much mind the nerdy science mom title. I am a scientist and I am pretty nerdy so I guess that is kind of an appropriate title. I just didn't realize it was odd to Do science play with my toddlers. I was with other moms when my friend and I were talking and none of them did those things. I was just as surprised that they didn't let their kids make oobleck (corn starch and water) or hadn't heard of it in some form.
@skibobrown, I'm a huge advocate or girls in science. I had a few girls come back to the school I taught at and told me they wanted to do medical research because of my class. I nearly cried I was so happy

I never even thought about that as being "science" but I guess it is. In that case, I am definitely all for doing that and I don't even think it is nerdy.
I was telling my friend that I was making DIY bubbles and play-doh last week and she thought that was ridiculous. I guess these sorts of things aren't for everyone.

I think it is awesome that you take the time to do stuff that will entertain them while educating them! You are making memories so more power to you!
