Please tell me your stories of short naps being a phase... I'm at my wits end! M is 5 months and takes three 30 min naps a day. Mama needs a break!!!

It got better for us around 7 mos I think? Before that it was 4 30-40 min naps, it sucked! Mrs yo yo wrote a good post on i!

@Rubies: she's been doing this about 2 months.
I've tried everything. White noise, keeping her up longer, keeping her up less time, quiet house... Letting her fuss when she wakes... The "problem" is she wakes up totally happy and ready to go! I'm not so ready to go though...

@sslm: Yep we tried everything and he was happy when he woke too. It was a phase, 5.5 m was a changing point for us. He still isn't a sleepy kid but naps DID get longer

@sslm: yup unfortunately it was just a phase we had to get thru. But we did!

It got better for us with at least one long nap (1.5 hours) when we transitioned to two naps around 7 months. But I've found baby sleep is always unreliable!

I'm sorry. 9 months and still doing three 30-45 minute naps. Once in awhile she will gift me a 1.5 hour nap. That happened a total of 3x so far in the past few weeks. I was skipping in glee!

@hilsy85: thanks! That thread is helpful
I'm trying to work on accepting this... It's so hard! But I can't keep getting upset every day, it's draining.

my LO is 11 months now and her naps were just like your LO's...3-4 30-45 minute naps per day and she was happy when she woke up. now she is down to 2 naps, one is still short, but one is usually longer (1-2 hours). she is still pretty happy even though she gets less sleep than the average baby (according to what i've read).

@sslm: Sadie was the queen of cat-naps for the first few months of her life! All of a sudden one day she just sort of got into her own little routine, and she's an awesome napper now. If we're home for the day, she takes three very predictable naps: 1 hour morning nap, 1 hour early afternoon nap, 2-3 hour late afternoon nap (she still cat naps while we're out and about - she can't help but fall asleep in the car!). I didn't change anything, she just started doing it around 6 months! There's hope for you!!

@photojane: best news I've head all day. My girl is 4 mos and also queen of the crap nap.

@sslm: to the five minute nap. Just offering solidarity, sadly no good advice. This is exactly my LO and at four months I'm wondering if we'll ever get longer naps.

@sslm: girl, been there. Feel your pain! Does she take a paci? If Sadie would wake up after a ridiculous nap & I knew she was still tired I would just pop her paci back in & give her her blankie & leave the room. Sometimes she would play until she fell back asleep, sometimes she would scream until she fell back asleep, & sometimes she just wouldn't sleep. It's worth a try though!

Ugh, been there. For us (hope I don't scare you!) naps didn't get better until LO was moved into the toddler room at daycare at 13 months. Before around 13 months, she took ONE 25-40 minute nap a day. One freaking nap, a day. On weekends, sometimes I could get her to take a longer nap but only if I slept with her the entire time.
At 13 months she suddenly switched to an afternoon nap of 1-2 hours. Glorious! At home, she'll usually also still take a morning nap of about 30 minutes, in addition to the good afternoon nap.

@mjane: it's so exhausting! But now I can actually get a nap in on some days! Just remind yourself that it's just a phase.

Just wanted to chime in and say this is us too. 7 months and the past 2+ months I've been trying to get longer nap stretches. Sometimes it's a hit, sometimes it's a miss. We had a 5 min. nap yesterday. I'm hoping it's a phase, even though she has always been a catnapper.

it is def a phase!! i think around 6/7 months was when she started taking consistent long naps and consolidated her naps into 2 big ones.
