We are definitely planning to do this, but I haven't put much research into it yet. I do know that it starts around 6 months.
Has anyone done this? I would love advice/info!

We started by just doing the signs every time we said the word. Eventually they caught on and started signing! We started with "more" and "milk" and then "please" and "all done"... We have some more but those are the main ones before they actually started speaking words as well. I'm sure others can chime in with resources but my DD really liked the baby signing time DVDs even as a pre-schooler.

I had no plans on doing it but when LO started daycare at 13 months, she picked it up quickly (daycare does signing for basic things). It was helpful so now we do it regularly. However, now that LO is learning to talk and knows some words, signing has diminished a little.

We taught my son sign language when he was first learning to talk because we wanted to give him a way of communicating with us. He picked up the signs really quickly. But once he started talking, we stopped signing because there was no need. But sometimes he does the "more" sign when he says "more" without thinking. haha

I'm trained as a baby sign instructor, though I haven't taught classes in ages. Six months is a good age to start at - I would start with a few basic signs, and just use a ton of repetition (while speaking the word/showing the object). Soon enough, your baby will start mimicking your actions, and even if they don't look exactly 'textbook', they'll get a point across.
I'd start with the most common signs, they seem to be picked up quickest (milk/drink, more, please, mom, etc).What's awesome about sign is that it also aids in language development - signing babies are often quicker/more efficient communicators (and sign DOESN'T hinder speech).
